Classrooms nationwide turn to virtual classrooms to fill in teacher gaps


Though virtual classrooms are nothing new, schools across the country are turning more to these digital alternatives to fill gaps created by the increasing teacher shortage. In Texas, some small districts are switching to four-day weeks, while in Florida, some schools are asking military veterans to step in despite having no classroom experience. CEO Shailey Baranwal of Elevate K12, a company that is taking virtual teachers and providing technology and platforms to place teachers via video in classrooms nationwide, shares that teacher applications have more than tripled over the past year. Though some believe face-to-face is necessary to create bonds, student reviews about virtual learning are mixed.
