Why There Are No New Performances on The Voice Tonight: April 21, 2025

Here's what you'll see on The Voice tonight instead!

By Elizabeth Logan

The competition on The Voice Season 27 is heading into overdrive, as Knockouts are over and it's almost time for Playoffs. But if you're tuning in tonight (April 21), just know that the episode is going to look a little different.

What's happening on The Voice tonight? (April 21, 2025)

How to Watch

Watch The Voice on NBC and Peacock.

From 8 p.m. to 10 p.m. ET, The Voice's usual slot, NBC is airing a special episode called "The Road to Playoffs," tracking the journeys of the competing Artists from the Blind Auditions until now, and teasing what's to come. There won't be any new performances on the April 21, 2025 episode. You'll have to wait for Playoffs (which kick off April 28) for those!

Loving The Voice just got sweeter!

Now through May 20, The Toothsome Chocolate Emporium & Savory Feast Kitchen at Universal CityWalk is partnering with The Voice to feature a limited-time milkshake called the Rocky Roll. The Rocky Roll milkshake is a chocolate soft serve with chocolate sauce, almonds, whipped topping, marshmallow and musical note sprinkles.

Adam Levine is still "beefing" with rival Blake Shelton on The Voice Season 27

Even without being on the show, former Coach Blake Shelton is still stirring up drama, apparently giving newbie Coach Kelsea Ballerini some iffy advice before she started. "Blake really made me nervous. He said, 'Adam [Levine]'s tough. Sometimes he’s mean, he’s competitive. He’s ruthless,'" Ballerini revealed in an early episode, adding, "He was wrong! You’re lovely! You’re really nice!"

The Coaches pose together on stage on The Voice Season 27, Episode 6.

While Levine may be nice to Ballerini, he had only sassy (joking) things to say about Shelton. "The one bad part of this season is I have to sit in this filthy chair," he complained; Coach John Legend is in the seat Levine once held, and the Maroon 5 singer now sits where Shelton once did.

Why The Voice never gets old

After many years as a Coach, EGOT winner Legend says he's still finding reasons to get excited about the competition. The “All of Me” singer told NBC Insider, “'I love that we get to be surrounded by so much talent and it’s really inspiring, truthfully. I learn so much from being on this show. I learn from coaching. I learn from the interaction I have with these Artists, and it’s very renewing because, you know, I’ve been making records for, like, 20 years now and to be around Artists that have that hunger and that excitement is very renewing for me, and I love that experience."

“The inspiration that I get from these Artists every single time is very renewing for me,” Legend continued. “And it doesn’t get old.''
