Who Is Dead on Grosse Pointe Garden Society? What We Know So Far
Little was revealed in the NBC murder mystery's series premiere, but it's enough to start some theories.
It all comes down to a dead body. For the people of Grosse Pointe, anyway.
The premiere of NBC's addicting new whodunit dramedy, Grosse Pointe Garden Society, gave viewers a small glimpse into the messy lives of our four main protagonists: Birdie (Melissa Fumero), Catherine (Aja Naomi King), Brett (Ben Rappaport), and Alice (AnnaSophia Robb). From the outside, they're four harmless members of their privileged town's garden club. But apparently, they're also capable of disposing of a corpse in said garden.
So far details are scarce when it comes to the who, what, when, and how of the murder. But we've still detailed everything we know, below.
Who did they bury in the Grosse Pointe garden?
Following the premiere viewers still don't know who was killed, and it will likely take multiple episodes until all is revealed. The cast wasn't even aware of the victim's identity until February, despite filming the series pilot nearly a year ago.

“As a cast, we just found out very recently that information [about who is killed], which of course we are sworn to secrecy about. But for a long time we did not know,” Rappaport told Us Weekly. “That’s part of what was so fun about the twists and turns. Just like the audience, they really kept us guessing. As an actor, that’s part of the reason I really enjoy doing TV. You play a character through a variety of different circumstances and journeys. I really enjoyed not knowing to be honest with you.”
When stopping by TODAY, Robb confessed she was "so surprised" by the big reveal. "We were placing bets as a crew and a cast. We were all on pins and needles, trying to figure out who dies," she said.
What are the clues we know so far about the murder?
Six months following the events of the pilot, Birdie, Catherine, Brett, and Alice all dug a grave for the victim in their club's garden. The group disposed of the corpse, which was wearing New Balance sneakers and wrapped in a blue and white embroidered quilt.
Dressed in formal wear, they lit the victim's car on fire. Birdie took it upon herself to get rid of the corpse's phone, but didn't tell the others what she did with it. To make matters worse? They learn the morning after that the garden will need to be dug up to make room for a new koi pond.
The matter of who killed the mystery corpse is another huge question. While we're still learning about the people of Grosse Pointe, the main foursome clearly have enemies. Birdie reached out to the son she gave up for adoption, Ford's (Felix Wolfe), but his adoptive mother warned Birdie to stay away. Catherine ruined the life of her former co-worker and lover, Gary (Saamer Usmani), exposing his affairs. Brett's ex-wife's new husband, Connor, is having Brett investigated. And Alice publicly accused one of her students of killing her dog. And that's just after the premiere.

Expect each episode to bread crumb more and more about the characters and the people in their lives as new potential motives are uncovered.
"I feel like times are tough, and I hope the show can provide an escape for people and just a moment to not think about all the stuff that's going on and just have fun with these characters, and the scandals, and sexiness, and the thriller of it, and the mystery and just kind of get wrapped up in our world. We can just provide a little bit of escape from everything else," Fumero told NBC Insider.
