At the end of Med's Season 10, Episode 18 ("Together One Last Time"), Waxman was honored with an in memoriam. An executive producer for beloved series like Friday Night Lights, Nashville, and Chicago Med, Waxman led an incredible career in entertainment and storytelling, and his passing has been felt by the entire Gaffney family and beyond.

Chi-Hards may be wondering what role Michael Waxman played within the One Chicago family, which is why we're looking back on the life of a producer who helped shape Chicago Med into the smash success it has become today.

Who is Michael Waxman from Chicago Med's in memoriam?

Michael Waxman was an executive producer on the first four seasons of Chicago Med. He passed away in April 2025.

Aside from co-executive producing Chicago Med from 2015 to 2019, Waxman directed 18 episodes across the first six seasons, making him a key mastermind in the early storylines.

Chicago Med alum Colin Donnell — a.k.a Dr. Connor Rhodes on Med — shared a sweet tribute to the Med producer on Instagram on April 8, posting back-to-back pictures of Waxman from Season 1 and Season 4 of the show.

"If you enjoy Chicago Med it's because from Day One, Michael Waxman pushed to make the show the best it could be and worked tirelessly to keep improving episode after episode, season after season," Donnell wrote

"He loved his job," Donnell's caption continued. "And as much as he loved making movies and television, it was a distant second to being on his ranch in Texas, surrounded by his family. Getting to spend four seasons alongside him and learning everything I could was a privilege I could have only hoped to repeat. Rest in Peace Boss."

Chicago Med legend S. Epatha Merkerson (Gaffney director Sharon Goodwin) joined Donnell in grieving their former producer. "We were so privileged to have him in our lives. Rest in peace…" Merkerson commented on the post.

Chicago Fire alum Yuri Sardarov (firefighter Otis Zvonecek) also commented, "Michael was truly the man. RIP to a real one."
