Born in London, Jones attended a performing arts high school in New York City, and then went on to study at Berklee College of Music. Her mother is jazz musician Kim Lesley. "I didn’t have glass over my eyes."

However, things ended up working out well for her. In 2016, she originated the role of Peggy Schuyler and Maria Reynolds in Lin Manuel Miranda's smash-hit Broadway musical Hamilton, winning her a Grammy award for Best Musical Theater Album.

Blindspotting was then made into a television series of the same name, where she reprised her role.

"It’s one of the most creative, fulfilling experiences I’ve ever done as an artist. I walk away from the show, and I’m a better artist because of it," Jasmine told Deadline of the experience.

Jasmine went on to win an Emmy Award in 2020 with her role as Tyisha in the mini-series #FreeRayshawn. Tyisha is the wife of the main character Rayshawn, a war veteran who attempts to protect his family from police by barricading himself in his apartment.

Throughout the years, Jones was very supportive of his daughter's career, and vice versa. The two even starred in the same film in 2018, titled Dog Days. In 2020, they both made history by being the first father-daughter duo to win an Emmy Award on the same night, with Ron pulling in his second for his role as William in This Is Us.

“Winning another Emmy is the icing on the cake, but to see my daughter progress and move into this place where she’s earned an Emmy is beyond words and I tear up every time I think about it, to be honest with you. To see my daughter become healthy and happy, that’s a parent’s dream,” Jones said during a virtual press room, via Deadline

The snapshots showed him kissing her as a newborn, him holding her up on his shoulders when she was a toddler, and an elegant photo of her posing with her Emmy.

"HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO MY PRIDE AND JOY!!!!!! Jasmine Cephas Jones/aka BIRD!!!! Celebrating You!! Love you🎶Forever-Ever? Forever-Ever🎶. ❤️🎶🎭🌞🆙🎥🌎🥁👊🏾😘🍾🌟🎉💐👑🎼🎁🎂🎺🎂🙏🏾xoxo Dad.🐈‍⬛" he gushed in the caption.
