Several world leaders, dignitaries, royal family members, and devout Catholics will gather in the Vatican to attend the funeral of Pope Francis

Following the pope’s death at the age of 88 and three days of public mourning, an official funeral will take place on Saturday, April 26 in St. Peter’s Square. Pope Francis had previously expressed his wishes for a more simplified funeral. Archbishop Diego Ravelli, the Vatican’s master of liturgical ceremonies, explained (via the Associated Pressthat the ceremony will “emphasize even more that the Roman Pontiff’s funeral is that of a shepherd and disciple of Christ and not of a powerful man of this world.”

The list of attendees planning to pay their respects at Pope Francis’ funeral proves just how far his reach was and the legacy he leaves behind as the head of the Catholic Church for the past 12 years.
