While fans love catching up with Mouch McHolland (Christian Stolte) on Chicago Fire, the beloved firefighter was M.I.A. during the April 2, 2025 episode.

How to Watch

Watch Chicago Fire Wednesdays at 9/8c on NBC and next day on Peacock

Whether he's slinging a firehose or giving advice to one of his many friends at 51, Mouch always saves the day on Chicago Fire. For 13 years, Mouch has been one of the most passionate firefighters in the house, and that zeal has only increased after he became a Lieutenant this season. As one of the O.G.s of Chicago Fire, fans are quick to notice his absence, especially with all his hard work lately.

Where is Mouch on Chicago Fire this week? April 2, 2025

Unfortunately for fans who love Mouch's comic relief and sage wisdom, he was out of commission on Chicago Fire this week.

Whether Mouch was enjoying a rare day off or picking up a Lieutenant shift at another firehouse is a mystery, but whatever it was brought him away from his post at 51. Mouch certainly deserves the time off. The "part-man, part-couch" may have earned his moniker for his affinity for being lazy on the station's couch, but he has a new lease on life, taking full advantage of his remaining time in the CFD before retirement.

Mouch is making big career moves in Chicago Fire Season 13

Randy "Mouch" McHolland (Christian Stolte) and Darren Ritter (Daniel Kyri) carry an injured man away from a fire in Chicago Fire Episode 1311.

Despite his anxieties about growing older within the CFD, Mouch set those concerns aside to finally take the exam to become a Lieutenant this season. Mouch celebrated the achievement alongside his best buddy Herrmann (David Eigenberg), who landed a promotion to captain.

"Mouch's ultimate plan is for Herrmann to move into the Chief seat so that I can take over as the Lieutenant on Engine, so you know, there's obstacles to that, of course," Stolte told The Fletcher Ford podcast. "We already have a new Chief and all of that kind of stuff, so it's really about maintaining the integrity of Truck. My character is the only one remaining from the original lineup on Truck; I've been on Truck for 13 years."

The ranks at Firehouse 51 have yet to change amid these exciting developments— Stella Kidd (Miranda Rae Mayo), Kelly Severide (Taylor Kinney), and Herrmann are still the acting Lieutenants under Chief Dom Pascal (Dermot Mulroney).

Christian Stolte appears as Mouch in Chicago Fire

Mouch has been eagerly stepping up to sub in for the Lieutenants any time they need, and he even made a brief guest appearance in the March 5 episode of Chicago Med after he took a shift with a neighboring firehouse. Mouch's grind hasn't stopped this season, and while that occasionally tears him away from 51, fans love to see his dreams of running Truck materialize.

"Take any moment in the back of that truck where we're laughing until tears come out of our eyes, and that's my favorite moment," Stolte told TVMeg. "As far as the actual acting part, a lot of the cool rescues and stuff we did, those are hard-won moments. They take a lot of hard work from a lot of people to make those things happen, and they are rewarding in their own way."
