What is The Hunting Party about?

The official synopsis for The Hunting Party reads: The Hunting Party is a high-concept crime procedural about a small team of investigators who are assembled to track down and capture the most dangerous killers our country has ever seen, all of whom have just escaped from a top-secret prison that’s not supposed to exist.

But that's just the tip of the iceberg.

The Hunting Party follows semi-retired FBI profiler Rebecca "Bex" Henderson, played by Melissa Roxburgh. We meet Bex while she's working security for a casino, profiling potential criminals. Over time, we learn that Bex left the FBI behind after a case went horribly wrong. She had a nasty run-in with the serial killer they were hunting down and almost died. Her partner at the time, Oliver Odell (Nick Wechsler), went rogue, resulting in some nasty consequences. Bex "retired," adopted a girl they rescued during that case, Sam (Kyra Leroux), and seemed fine to leave her old life behind.

However, Bex is dragged back into the fold when an explosion at a black-ops government prison, The Pit, frees an unknown number of serial killers who were secretly contained there. With the world's most prolific living killers running loose and wreaking havoc once again, Bex joins a newly assembled team of experts to hunt down and capture them: CIA agent Jacob Hassani (Patrick Sabongui; HomelandThe Flash), former Pit prison guard Shane Florence (Josh McKenzie; La Brea), and Army Intelligence officer Jennifer Morales (Sara Garcia; RideThe Flash). This new crew is overseen by none other than the Pit's warden and Bex's disgraced former partner, Oliver Odell.

Every week, the titular team identifies a new killer who escaped the Pit and works together to recapture them. However, due to ongoing physical and psychological experiments in the Pit, the killers have... changed. Whether it's their methods, their motivations, or their desired outcomes, the killers are now more dangerous and unpredictable than ever.

Add to that a sprinkling of inter-team turmoil, unknown loyalties, government conspiracies, and a possible love triangle, and the action never stops.

New episodes of The Hunting Party air on Mondays at 10/9c on NBC and stream next day on Peacock.
