The Universal Studios Lot Will Be the Olympic Venue for *This* Sport
Find out more about the newly-announced LA28 venues and the sporting events they will host when the Olympics head to SoCal.
Lights, camera, action!
The LA28 organizers announced Tuesday, April 15 that the Universal Studios Lot will serve as the venue for Squash at the 2028 Summer Games, a rather fitting setting for the Los Angeles Olympics. Attendees will be able to watch Squash players duke it out in the same exact place where movies like To Kill a Mockingbird and Back to The Future were filmed.
"We’ve promised the world an incredible Olympic Games and today we’re proud to share the plan that will make it happen,” said LA28 Chief Executive Officer Reynold Hoover in a press release. “Los Angeles is the epicenter of sports, culture and entertainment, and every venue selected for the 2028 Games will provide athletes and fans the best possible experience. The 2028 Olympic venue plan invites communities from across the region to celebrate the Games coming to their backyard with the most exciting sports staged at some of the world’s top-tier existing stadiums and arenas, famous beaches and purpose-built temporary structures.”

Where will the LA28 Games be hosted?
While Los Angeles is the official host city, multiple cities across Southern California will host different sporting events, including Long Beach, Anaheim, Venice Beach, San Clemente, and more.
Notable venues include Dodgers Stadium, the LA Memorial Coliseum, Venice Beach, and the Rose Bowl Stadium in Pasadena, Calif.
Each venue has been chosen for its ability to accommodate the respective sporting events, including pre-existing stadiums and arenas. As the LA28 site notes, the 2028 Summer Games will "be the first Games in 80 years to not build any new permanent venues, instead utilizing the dynamic roster of existing stadiums and arenas at our fingertips."
Some of the venues used at the 1984 LA Olympics will even be used as a venue for the second or third time, like the L.A. Memorial Coliseum and the Pool at Exposition Park.
What to know about Squash
The racket sport is set to make its Olympic debut at the Los Angeles Games.
Played by two individuals, Squash is a fast-paced game that sees competitors hit a ball against the front wall of an enclosed four-wall court. The ball must bounce twice before an opponent can return the serve. Whoever receives 11 points first wins the match, of which there are five.
An enclosed court is expected to be set up at Courthouse Square on the Universal Studios Lot, which is located on the Lower Lot. The Lower Lot is also the home of the Super Nintendo World, Jurassic World, and Transformers: The Ride.
