Twisted Metal Season 2 Reveals July Premiere Date With Hilarious First Look (WATCH)

John Doe, Quiet, and Sweet Tooth return for Calypso's demolition derby tournament July 31.

By Josh Weiss

Start your engines! Season 2 of Peacock's Twisted Metal series arrives Thursday, July 31.

The official premiere date was announced today in a brief teaser video (see below) centered around the mysterious Calypso (Barry's Anthony Carrigan), whose need to make a dramatic entrance draws both ridicule and admiration from John Doe (Captain America: Brave New World's Anthony Mackie) and Quiet (Brooklyn Nine-Nine's Stephanie Beatriz).

In a statement, showrunner, writer, and executive producer Michael Jonathan Smith (Cobra Kai) promises that "the stakes couldn't be higher" as our two heroes put their lives on the line to compete in Calypso's demolition derby tournament.

"The prize? A single wish, their greatest heart's desire, granted," Smith continued. "The only problem is 16 other drivers have wishes of their own. Anthony Mackie and Stephanie Beatriz lead a stellar cast, including Will Arnett & Joe Seanoa (aka Samoa Joe) as fan favorite Sweet Tooth, and Anthony Carrigan as the iconic tournament host Calypso, in a fast-paced, hysterical, thrilling season with unforgettable characters. It’s too bad not all of them will survive."

In a 2023 interview with NBC Insider, the Smith confirmed that Season 2 will introduce a number of classic characters from the original Twisted Metal video games like Dollface (revealed to be John Doe's long-lost sister at the end of Season 1), Axel, and Mr. Grimm.

"I'm excited for fans to see these characters come to life and see what makes them funny and what makes them heartbroken. I think it's gonna be fun to dive into these people," he said. "We introduced a lot of these characters — Preacher, Bloody Mary, John, Quiet, Watts — it's gonna be fun to put them all in a [single] place at the tournament and have them interact. I'm excited about seeing how does Preacher react to Bloody Mary? How does Grimm react to Sweet Tooth?’ There’s a lot of really fun, interconnective character headspace stuff that I'm really excited to dive into. It feels like a new toy box."

The roster of recurring guest stars for Season 2 includes Saylor Bell Curda (High School Musical: The Musical: The Series) as Mayhem, Lisa Gilroy (Interior Chinatown) as Vermin, Richard de Klerk (Designated Survivor) as Mr. Grimm, Patty Guggenheim (She-Hulk: Attorney at Law) as Raven, Tiana Okoye (The Good Place) as Dollface. The only unknown variable is Michael James Shaw (The Walking Dead), but we'd be willing to bet good money he's tackling the role of Axel.
