Tony Goldwyn Gushes That Young Kerry Washington Is "So Cute" on Law & Order
Goldwyn has nothing but love for his Scandal co-star, who has also roamed the Law & Order universe.
Law & Order star Tony Goldwyn had some sweet words for his longtime co-star Kerry Washington after she shared a throwback clip that saw her in the 27th Precinct years before he took on his role of D.A. Nicholas Baxter.
Fans first fell in love with Goldwyn and Washington through their smash roles on Scandal, where for seven seasons, viewers obsessed over the explosive chemistry between Washington's Olivia Pope and Goldwyn's President Fitzgerald Grant. And the years without new episodes have done little to quell the love people share for seeing these powerhouses on screen together, leading many to wonder: could Washington join Goldwyn on Law & Order at some point? It wouldn't be a ridiculous idea. Not only do Goldwyn and Washington remain good friends, but she's no stranger to Dick Wolf's Law & Order universe.

In March 2024, Washington shared a throwback video of her Law & Order debut in which she delivers a gripping performance opposite Sam Waterston's D.A. Jack McCoy. The Scandal star was keen to point out that maybe her character wouldn't have landed on the witness stand if a certain fresh-faced D.A. had been there to pull some strings.
"24 years ago, my @nbclawandorder moment #TBT," Washington captioned the Instagram throwback. "Wonder what would have happened if it was @tonygoldwyn grilling Allie instead of #SamWaterson😂😂😂 #LawAndOrder."
Tony Goldwyn gushes over a 2001-era Kerry Washington
Goldwyn caught wind of Washington's post during his March 10 appearance on TODAY. Goldwyn commended Washington for her social media chops and shared some endearing sentiments about his longtime co-star, whom he speaks with on the regular.
"I can't keep up with Kerry's social media," Goldwyn laughed. "I talked to her yesterday, and she didn't tell me."
Goldwyn pondered Washinton's question about McCoy and Baxter's various interrogation styles. "OK, that is pretty good. I've got to look at this one. I'll have to respond to this," Goldwyn shared while watching the 2001 video. "That's really funny. Look at young Kerry! She's so cute."
Goldwyn playfully added, "I would definitely not have been as nice as Sam [Waterston]."
Washington guest starred in Law & Order Season 12, Episode 9 ("3 Dawd Night") as Allie Lawrence, a singer who got entangled in a gruesome murder plot after her rapper boyfriend landed on the squad's radar. Turns out, Washington's character was more involved in the murder than it initially seemed, leading Allie to land in an interrogation room with the Precinct's former D.A. Jack McCoy.

Goldwyn is a big fan of seeing an "Olitz" reunion on Law & Order sometime, but unlike the "fixer" Olivia Pope, he thinks Washington would thrive as a Law & Order baddie who'd shake things up for the squad.
"If Kerry Washington comes to Law & Order, she will be a villain. I can just tell you that right now," Goldwyn told TODAY in March 2024. As Scandal fans cross their fingers for a potential reunion, we can rely on Goldwyn and Washington's heartwarming friendship to hold us through.
Watch Law & Order on Thursdays at 8/7c on NBC and the next day on Peacock.
