Former The Voice Coach and Happy's Place star Reba McEntire and Season 27 Playoffs Mega Mentor LeAnn Rimes sound heartbreakingly beautiful on their duet, "When You Love Someone Like That." The track appears on both McEntire's 2007 album Reba: Duets and Rimes' 2007 album Family, and tells the story of a doomed relationship resulting in inevitable pain.

The story is a conversation between two women, one of whom has recently been hurt by someone she loved but couldn't keep. She blames herself for the way he caused her pain, but the second woman assures her that some men are just like that, and she did nothing wrong.

Rimes and McEntire sang the song together at the 2007 CMT Awards, and later, in 2024, the song's co-writer Karyn Rochelle shared the performance on Facebook and wrote, "The day Ed Hill and I wrote 'When You Love Someone Like That', we knew it was something special. Heartache is universal, it happens to us all at some point. If we are lucky, we have someone in our corner to talk us through the ruins of it and lift us up. The true power of love is in reminding one another of our inherent value and helping to make one another better."

She continued, "When we wrote this, we imagined Reba singing the second verse of this song. Her maternal, nurturing energy and years of wisdom were a perfect match to the lyric. When she recorded it on her duets album with LeAnn Rimes, we could not have been more excited. She and LeAnn performed it on the CMA Awards and gave such a truly, powerful performance. Fortunately, though heartbreak is alive and well in their music, both country stars are happily partnered. Rimes is married to actor Eddie Cibrian, and McEntire has been dating her Happy's Place co-star Rex Linn for five years. McEntire says she could give or take marriage, but they're committed all the way.
