The cover started out with gorgeous piano notes before Clarkson jumped in, crooning a rich tone and telling a story with her voice, using gentle riffs along the way.

For the second verse, she belted her heart out, and flipped into heavenly high notes, before wrapping everything up with soft notes.

What to know about "Desperado" by the Eagles

One of the band's most recognizable tunes to date, "Desperado" was released off of the band's 1973 album of the same name. Although the song is a signature tune for the band now, it was actually originally considered a deep cut at the time of its release. In 2016, frontman Don Henley told Rolling Stone that the track did not pick up traction until it was covered by Linda Ronstadt.

In 2023, Billboard listed it as the second best Eagles song. "[Desperado] boasts a desolate, tumbleweeds-rolling-in-the-sunset ambience that makes a genuinely cinematic impact," the outlet wrote.
