Alison Brie Compares Bonds With Apples Never Fall Cast To Those with Community Cast

Alison Brie revealed how often she still talks with her Community castmates as the crew prepares to film a movie take on Community.

Alison Brie has been open that she “bonded immediately” with her costars in the new Peacock limited series Apples Never Fall. But that's happened before with her on another show, too: Community.

With a much-anticipated Community movie also on the way, Brie is sharing more about her friendships with those NBC sitcom castmates, even all these years after Community ended its television run.

Alison Brie's special relationship with Danny Pudi

Although she keeps in touch with many of her Community co-tars, she has a unique bond with Danny Pudi, who played Abed Nadir on the show.

Brie and her husband, David Franco, wrote the movie Somebody I Used To Know, and it gave Brie a chance to star alongside Pudi again.

“It was so fun. It was a blast!” Brie said to Screen Rant Plus. “It was everything you’d think. Like for us, it was so great because it felt like we didn’t skip a beat. It was just like being on the set of Community.

Brie and Pudi have a genuine friendship off of film and television sets as well.

“My average hang with Danny is taking a hike,” Brie told MovieWeb in March 2024. “We go for a hike in Griffith Park … Danny is like a brother to me, and we truly are just like, ‘What’s going on with you?’ We hit every aspect of our lives during that hike — work, home —‘ Romance! How’s your marriage!? Anything steamy with your husband or your wife?’ It’s the best. I love Danny.”

Brie and Pudi even put their singing skills on full display when they reunited in June 2023 for an episode of Apple TV’s Carpool Karaoke: The Series.

“You know, Danny’s one of my closest friends,” Brie said to MovieWeb. “That [Community] cast really did feel like a family too. I feel like not since Community, and then [Apples Never Fall], I’ve felt that same feeling of like an immediate, cohesive, natural bond.”

Is Allison Brie friends with her other Community co-stars?

In August 2019, Brie revealed she’s still in touch with her other co-stars from the cult favorite comedy on the BUILD series. She shared some of the cast members were planning to go to Joel McHale and Ken Jeong’s comedy show together to support them.

“There’s a text chain … it’s a love fest. We love each other,” Brie said.

She added in an interview with Looper in 2020, “The text chain is going off constantly. We’ve already texted seven times today. It’s very cute. I love those guys.”

That group chat is going off even more with news of the Community movie.

"Everybody's talking it up, so it's a good sign actually that we're all signed on, we're all excited to do it, and now it's just a matter of getting a script and coordinating schedules, really," Brie said in a new interview with NBC Insider"I'll believe it when I see it, but I'm optimistic."

Since his time on Community, Brie’s co-star Donald Glover has pursued a music career under the name Childish Gambino, which Brie is thrilled to see take off.

“I definitely remember listening to Donald’s first mixtapes on the set of Community, when he first was like, ‘Yeah I make some music,’ and we were like, ‘What do you mean! Play us some stuff!’” Brie said on the BUILD series. “We always knew Donald is like a magical person artistically, and I’m so proud of him.”

Watch Apples Never Fall only on Peacock starting on March 14.
