An Iconic Law & Order: SVU Character Was Just Killed Unexpectedly
Fans no doubt remember the award-winning SVU episode "911" (Season 7, Episode 3). And they'll be shocked by the latest development from that case.
The Law & Order and Law & Order: SVU crossover event (airing Thursday, April 17 at 8/7c on NBC) has many twists and turns you won't want to miss. One of the most shocking details from the storyline was actually revealed in a promo for the episode you may have already seen on TV.
In the spot, Captain Olivia Benson (Mariska Hargitay) finds herself shattered after finding out Maria Recinos, a.k.a the little girl from the iconic "911" episode (Season 7, Episode 3), was brutally murdered.
Fans know Benson first met Maria after the SVU saved her from child pornographers in "911." Benson fought tooth and nail to rescue Maria, and decades later, was thrilled to learn Maria grew up to become a detective. The SVU captain loved getting the chance to reconnect with grown-up Maria in a Season 25 episode. At the time, it gave her closure that Maria found peace.

Maria Recinos' unexpected murder blindsides Benson on SVU
The promo for SVU Season 26, Episode 19 opens with Benson walking onto a crime scene where a dead body has been reported. She looks distraught, more so than usual, and we quickly learn why. The body belongs to Maria.

"You knew her?" Lt. Jessica Brady (Maura Tierney) from Law & Order asks Benson. (Remember, this is a crossover!)
"We rescued her when she was a kid," Benson says. "She just joined the department last year."
"We're 'gonna catch the bastard," Benson adds, referring to the person who murdered Maria.

"Sometimes you have to ask for forgiveness instead of permission," Benson says at the end of the promo, leading fans to wonder how she and the squad will go about catching Maria's killer.
