Gabriel Macht Called Suits LA Return "Nostalgic," But The Reason Isn't What You Think

The actor said having his real-life father on set of his Suits LA return made it a "full-circle moment."

Suits fans are likely still reeling from this week's action-packed episode. Gabriel Macht’s reprisal as the one and only Harvey Specter in Suits LA marked a monumental comeback, and for more reasons than audiences might think.

How to Watch

Watch Suits: LA on NBC and Peacock.

The 53-year-old actor recently discussed getting back in his suit since the original series ended in 2019 to fulfill a highly anticipated three-episode arc in the spinoff. Some of his first couple of scenes, he told People, were shot in Rancho Park in Los Angeles, where once the actor practiced baseball while still in high school.

He called the experience “extremely nostalgic.”

Why Macht called his Suits LA return “nostalgic”

Macht, who touched on his LA upbringing with E! News in response to the January 2025 wildfires, has only ever had good things to say about the city where he was raised. He said a sense of nostalgia kicked in when shooting scenes for Suits LA on the baseball field where he once played.

“So, getting into a uniform and playing baseball for that scene, not only was it nostalgic just to be Harvey again, [but also to be] on a set with my showrunner from the original show, Aaron [Korsh], and the directors are the same directors and writers,” he told People. “So, that was all very nostalgic.”

When one thinks about Harvey Specter in Suits, they probably don't think about his baseball career, but it seems it was a big part of the actor's nostalgic return to the franchise.

Macht touched on the impact Harvey Specter’s character had in both the TV industry and the “public zeitgeist, calling it an “interesting sort of dynamic.” He added, “It was not only nostalgic, but it was a sweet, sort of full-circle moment."

And, as if filming at his familiar haunt wasn’t enough, Macht’s father, actor Stephen Macht, looked on from the bleachers, just as he had when the younger Macht used to play ball.

“I said, ‘If you want to see a scene, you should come to this scene,’” Macht continued to People. “There he is, sitting in the stands … where he used to watch me play [as a kid] … That was a full-circle moment.”

Harvey Specter returned to the franchise in Suits LA Season 1, Episode 4 (first, as a flashback), bringing back all the smooth-talking and charm fans have come to love since he started Suits in 2011. Macht joked to People that Korsh made his Suits return easy in that “for once,” the show’s creator didn’t make his lines “impossibly difficult.”

In March, the actor told Us Weekly what he loved about his character as the hard-ball attorney, as previously reported by NBC Insider.

“I think that there’s a certain element to Harvey, which is [that] he speaks from the hip. He’s very quippy,” he said. “He’s totally and utterly full of himself and has an ego — really the size of maybe a small state in the U.S. — but underneath it all, he really does have a heart of gold.”

Earlier this year, Macht expressed to People that he held “little interest” in acting but was happy to take on the task “for the fans.” In his most recent interview, Macht said he had “ a good time” working with the old gang, though most of his parts were filmed with Specter’s long-term compadre, attorney Ted Black (Stephen Amell).

In recent months, Macht called his Suits return “super surreal” and “wild in many ways,” which seemed to be the case in the initial Rancho Park scenes.

And his fans continue to go wild.
