Found Season 2, Episode 18 finally reveals who kidnapped Jamie
If you recall, the newly-returned Jamie (played as an adult by Parker Queenan) went to see Sir (Mark-Paul Gosselaar) in prison at the end of Episode 16, "Missing While Witnessed." Margaret (Kelli Williams) found out about this sit-down and made her own trip in last week's episode, "Missing While Manipulated," to see Mr. Evans, who dropped a cryptic line he got straight from Jamie: "The clouds will part eventually. Just give it a minute..."
This triggers a recollection for Margaret in tonight's Episode 18, "Missing While Heather." She heard the line before from someone who seemed to understand what she was going through — a kind soul who didn't think she was crazy. Remember the woman who offered to help hand out fliers at the end of Episode 13, "Missing While Grieving"? And then again, three episodes later, when she turned back and diffused one of Margaret's freak-outs against a custodial worker?
Well, her name is Carrie (Suehyla El-Attar Young), and it was she who kidnapped Jamie at the bus station all those years ago! Not only did she rip an innocent child away from his mother, but she sadistically inserted herself into Margaret's life — just like a serial killer returning to the scene of the crime or aiding to help in the search for a person they murdered.

For years, Carrie offered comfort, friendship, and even a drawing from her "son" when Jamie was in plain sight all along. In her twisted mind, Carrie needed to get close in order to wheedle information on Jamie's likes and dislikes from the woman she was actively torturing. Based on what she tells, Margaret, it seems Carrie snapped after losing her biological son to a heart defect not long after childbirth and took Jamie to fill the terrible void.
Moreover, she had the absolute chutzpah to tell Margaret to stop holding out hope, which is what ended their friendship. Carrie's advice to let go was that of a frustrated criminal realizing they messed with the wrong person. She severely underestimated Margaret, never dreaming she'd be the exception to the rule of parents who give up searching for their missing children years after the fact. Rather than inform Gabi (Shanola Hampton) and the others about this Earth-shaking revelation, Margaret decides to confront Carrie on her own in the middle of a raging blizzard.
This doesn't quite work out the way she'd hoped when a desperate and cornered Carrie knocks her out with a tea kettle. Jamie shows up on the scene, and despite Carrie's pleas for him to come with her, despite her insistence that Margaret was a terrible parent to him, he stays with his unconscious birth mother.
Now Carrie's in the wind.
Elsewhere, Gabi finds herself locked inside Sir's prison cell during a riot among the inmates when the power goes out due to blizzard conditions. Little as Gabi wants to be stuck in close quarters with Hugh Evans ever again, it turns out to be the safest place for her, with Sir fending off any bloodthirsty rioters. Thankfully, she makes it out alive with nary a scratch.
Meanwhile, Zeke (Arlen Escarpeta) and Lacey (Gabrielle Walsh) encounter a major speed bump in their blossoming relationship when the generator powering Zeke's apartment fails. M&A's agoraphobic tech whiz promptly has a major breakdown that he later tries to brush off, much to Lacey's disappointment. How can she date a man who refuses to open up and discuss his feelings?

"I think filming that scene was great. It was the veil being pulled back. This is the reality of who we are. This is what our world really looks like when we’re not romanticizing it," Escarpeta tells NBC Insider. "Having Zeke and Lacey after the kiss, after that magical moment, now in this space was amazing to film. I was like, ‘Wow, this is real life. This is what we have to unpack if we’re going to make these steps and go forward with it.’"
"It’s sort of this reality check," echoes Walsh. "Yeah, there is a deep connection. Yeah, they’re best friends. But there are so many things that they have to get past ... You have to deal with those shortcomings, those inhibitions or obstacles. And these aren’t little ones. They’re severe. Zeke hasn’t left his home in how many years? That’s a big deal with him and [we can only guess] what that does to a person. [In this moment, Lacey is wondering]: What is the reality of what this relationship would look like?"
"All of us are rooting for them," concludes creator, showrunner, and executive producer Nkechi Okoro Carroll. "We’re the biggest Zeke and Lacey shippers in our writers’ room. But they’re two very complicated individuals. Lacey just got re-traumatized, so they both have a lot of work to do. But in terms of finding the right person for you who understands that journey, they are definitely working their way towards being that person for each other. "But it’s gonna be a ride."
