Darci Lynne's A Cappella Lainey Wilson Cover is Haunting, Bold, and Beautiful

The AGT Season 12 winner made the country star proud!

By Chris Phelan

Could Darci Lynne have a future in country music? Fans are starting to think so after her latest cover.

The 20-year-old has never sounded better than in her April 10 Instagram video. Lynne delivered an astounding a cappella cover of Lainey Wilson's "Sunday Best" that will put you in the best mood for the weekend. Longtime America's Got Talent fans will be so proud of the well-rounded singer the Season 12 winner has evolved into!

Dressed down in jeans and a baggy T-shirt, Lynne casually belting Wilson's lyrics is a sight — and sound — to behold. There's so much power and vibrato coming from Lynne's vocal chords that her words take on a heavenly quality.

"One of my favs by Lainey Wilson 🙈🙈🙈," Lynne captioned. It definitely sounds like it's one of her favorite Wilson tracks — she's certainly singing it like the song has had a profound effect on her!

Maybe it's the room's acoustics, but the ethereal quality of Lynne's voice is haunting, beautiful, and pitch-perfect. The AGT alum is a genuine star in 2025, and we're starting to believe she can cover any song in any genre with ease!

Speaking of Wilson, as one of the most prominent members of the Grand Ole Opry, she was a big part of the recent NBC special Opry 100: A Live Celebration. She tore the house down alongside Marty Stuart as the duo performed a rocking duet of  "Things a Man Oughta Know."

If you didn't catch Opry 100 live, you can log on to Peacock and watch Wilson's performance — and countless others — streaming on-demand whenever you like!

Here's what to know about "Sunday Best"

Initially recorded in 2020 by Wilson and later released on her 2021 album Sayin' What I'm Thinkin', "Sunday Best" helped the album reach the #40 spot on the Billboard Hot Country Albums chart in 2021.

In words to Apple Music after the album's release, Wilson told the story of how the songwriting process "Sunday Best" came to be.

"I had the song, and I wrote it with Brice Long and Shane Minor — those are literally two of the countriest dudes I know in Nashville," Wilson explained. "Actually, that day, we had written it as 'drinking in my Sunday dress.' I loved the song, but it was still not connecting to me for some reason. Then I realized the reason is because I don't wear dresses. Last minute, I was like, 'Well, how about we change it to Sunday best?' It's telling a story about how everybody deals with heartbreak different. Some people cry about it, some people drink about it, some people pray about it, or all of the above."
