The iconic country queen is spreading holiday cheer—again!—and will be joined by incredible guest stars.
NBC’s 2022 holiday programming just got kicked into high gear with an extra-special announcement! The queen of country music, Dolly Parton, is starring in a new film, Dolly Parton’s Mountain Magic Christmas, for the network.
Set in Dollywood, Parton's amusement park in the Tennessee Smoky Mountains, Dolly Parton’s Mountain Magic Christmas is a contemporary movie-musical that tells the backstage story of making a network TV special. This sentimental holiday movie takes viewers on a journey through time as Parton is visited by the Three Wise Men. The entertainer is taught valuable lessons, ultimately challenging her notions of the real magic of Christmas.
This isn't Parton's first collaboration with NBC. In 2015, Parton signed on to develop a series of TV movies for the network based on some of her most well-known songs and life stories. Audiences were beyond captivated by the first film in the series, Coat of Many Colors, and the sequel, Christmas of Many Colors: Circle of Love.
In a December 2021 interview with People, Parton spoke about the importance of always following your dreams, even after you’ve achieved them.
“I have to say, it’s the honest to God truth…I say I dreamed myself into a corner, meaning my dreams have come true, and with every dream, as I’ve said you gotta have something that’s going to spin off from that,” Parton told People. “You can’t just leave them there, and say, ‘Oh my dream’s come true, and I’m walking outta here.' No, you have to be responsible for that—to show you’re grateful. So I’m going to be right there until I fall over dead.”

The highly-anticipated holiday special will feature a powerhouse cast starring country queen Parton alongside Tom Everett Scott, Ana Gasteyer, and Angel Parker. Mountain Magic Christmas will also boast a lineup of talented guest stars such as Willie Nelson, Jimmy Fallon, Billy Ray Cyrus, Miley Cyrus, Zach Williams, and Jimmie Allen, Mary Lane Haskell, Bryan Batt, Brendan Bradley, John Newberg, Rachel Parton George, Cassie Parton Griffith, Rhoda Griffis, Liam Rauhoff, and Steve Summers round out the cast.
