Shop Master Bio

Jimmy DiResta serves as Shop Master on NBC's new series "Making It," hosted by Amy Poehler and Nick Offerman, which celebrates craftiness and creativity. As the show's Master Helper, DiResta will serve as an additional resource for the makers throughout their challenges by assisting with needs in the woodshop.

DiResta is a New York-based designer, artist and video producer. He enrolled in the School of Visual Arts in 1986 and graduated in 1990 with a BFA degree. In 1993, he formed the toy design company and store DiResta in the East Village and then went on to teach at the School of Visual Arts.

In 2003, DiResta served as set decorator and co-host on “Trash to Cash” with his brother, John DiResta, and in 2006, he co-hosted “Hammered with John & Jimmy DiResta.” The show focused on the marriage of Jimmy's craftsmanship and John's humor. In 2009, Jimmy hosted "Against the Grain," and in 2011, he co-hosted "Dirty Money" with his brother. The DiResta brothers set out to scour every corner of New York City, from dumpsters to flea markets.

Since starting his TV career, he has entered the YouTube media business, publishing on the Make Magazine and Core77 channels as well as his own. With 1.2 million subscribers and tens of millions of views worldwide, Jimmy is renowned for his incredibly unique and creative creations and has one of the top master builder YouTube channels in the world. He has co-hosted the weekly “Making It” podcast since 2014 with David Picciuto and Bob Clagett.

In 2016, Make Magazine published a book co-written by Jimmy DiResta and John Baichtal, titled "Workshop Mastery with Jimmy DiResta."
