Dr. Ava Bekker

Norma Kuhling plays the outspoken Dr. Ava Bekker, a gifted trauma surgeon from South Africa, who first appeared on the Season 2 finale of the NBC drama "Chicago Med."
Born and raised in New York, Kuhling started acting in plays from a young age, making her theater debut in "Moonchildren" by Michael Weller at the Berkshire Theatre Festival. She also has a background in ballet and Dunham technique, as well as classical piano and singing.
She trained at Double Edge Theatre, focusing on Grotowski-based physical theater before attending LAMDA, the prestigious London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art.
Soon after graduation, she booked a role in Scott Hicks' independent film "Fallen," alongside Lola Kirke and Jeremy Irvine. Her previous television work includes a recurring role on the USA Network series "Falling Water."
Kuhling recently completed filming a lead role in "Fourteen," an independent film directed by Dan Sallitt.
When she's not filming on location, Kuhling lives in London.
