Actor Bio

Jayne Atkinson stars as Della Bedford on the new NBC drama "Bluff City Law."

Atkinson is best known for her role as Secretary of State Catherine Durant on the hit Netflix series "House of Cards."

Atkinson made her Broadway debut in a revival production of Arthur Miller's "All My Sons." Other Broadway credits include "The Rainmaker" (Tony nomination), "Our Town" with Paul Newman, "Enchanted April" (Tony nomination, Drama Desk nomination, Outer Critics Circle Award) and "Blithe Spirit" with Angela Lansbury. She has also appeared off-Broadway in a number of productions, including "The Art of Success" (Drama Desk nomination), "The Skriker" (Drama Desk nomination), "How I Learned to Drive" and "The Vagina Monologues."

Atkinson's most recent regional production was "Ann" by Holland Taylor at the Dorset Theatre and "Shakespeare and Company" in collaboration with WAM Theatre, directed by WAM's artistic director, Kristen van Ginhoven.

On the big screen, Atkinson has appeared in "Free Willy," "Free Willy 2: The Adventure Home," "The Village" and "Syriana." 

Other notable television roles include "24," "Criminal Minds" and most recently opposite Téa Leoni on "Madam Secretary." 

Directing and producing credits include benefit productions of "Motherhood Out Loud" and "Can You Hear Me Baby?" for WAM Theatre and the Berkshire Festival of Women Writers.

A graduate of Northwestern University and Yale Drama School, Atkinson is married to actor Michel Gill.
