DETECTIVE SAM HODIAK

Played By David Duchovny

Actor Bio

David Duchovny stars as LAPD Detective Sam Hodiak on the NBC series "Aquarius."

Born and raised in New York City, Duchovny attended Princeton University, received his master's degree in English literature from Yale and was on the road to earning his PhD when he caught the acting bug.

Duchovny is best known for the hit series "The X-Files." For his role as Fox Mulder, Duchovny was nominated twice for an Emmy Award for Outstanding Actor in a Drama Series, and won a Golden Globe in 1997, along with three other nominations for the part. Duchovny won a second Golden Globe for his role as Hank Moody on the Showtime series "Californication." In fact, Duchovny is the only actor to have won Globes as the lead for both TV drama and comedy.

Just as he was for "The X-Files," Duchovny was nominated three other times for "Californication." In addition to his two Emmy nominations for "The X-Files," Duchovny was nominated for an Emmy as Outstanding Guest Actor in a Comedy Series for "Life with Bonnie" and "The Larry Sanders Show." He has also been nominated nine times for a Screen Actors Guild Award as well as a Television Critics Award.

Still recognized for his role as Dennis/Denise Bryson, the transvestite detective in David Lynch's breakthrough series "Twin Peaks," Duchovny spent four seasons as the impassioned narrator of Zalman King's erotic anthology series "Red Shoe Diaries." He also made a memorable appearance on "Sex and the City" as an ex-flame of Carrie Bradshaw.

As a director, Duchovny helmed three episodes of "The X-Files," six episodes of "Californication" and an episode of "Bones."

Duchovny's passion for renegade films has brought him critical acclaim for his performances in the feature films "Kalifornia," in which he co-starred opposite Brad Pitt; "The Rapture," the controversial film co-starring Mimi Rogers; and "Julia Has Two Lovers," in which he gave a much-heralded performance as a telephone hustler.

Duchovny also played Charlie Chaplin's longtime confidant and cameraman in "Chaplin," starring Robert Downey Jr., and starred in the hit "Beethoven," opposite Charles Grodin and Bonnie Hunt.

Other feature credits include the action comedy "Evolution," the romantic comedy "Return to Me," two "The X-Files" films, "Playing God," "Full Frontal," "Trust the Man," "The TV Set," "Things We Lost in the Fire," "The Secret," "The Joneses" and a hilarious cameo in "Zoolander."

In 2005, Duchovny wrote and appeared in his feature directorial debut, "House of D." The film, which starred Robin Williams and Anton Yelchin, vividly captured the spirit of youth in all its joy and heartbreak.

On stage, Duchovny starred in the off-Broadway production of Neil LaBute's "Break of Noon."

His first novel, "Holy Cow," was released in February by Farrar, Straus and Giroux. David recently completed his first studio album for ThinkSay Records. "Hell or Highwater" is currently being distributed by Caroline Records.

David will begin production on the Fox event series "The X-Files" in June 2015, reuniting with Gillian Anderson and Chris Carter. The series will be released in the first quarter of 2016.

David splits his time between Los Angeles and New York.
