MZANSI YOUTH CHOIR

  • Hometown: Soweto, South Africa

Bio

Mzansi Youth Choir is a group from Soweto, South Africa, led by Jannie and Marina Zaaiman. They initially formed the group to keep youth singers off the streets and help them focus their energy on creating art. Over the past two decades, approximately 600 young people between the ages of 14 and 24 have been a part of this project, which combines traditional South African music with gospel and pop music. The group performed their own spin on the song "It's OK," originally written and performed by Nightbirde (aka Jane Marczewski), a fan-favorite singer who competed on Season 16 of "AGT." Their emotional performance and dedication to the memory of Nightbirde won over the judges and the audience, earning them the first-ever audience Golden Buzzer.
