Lionel Richie sets out to unlock the mystery of the man his beloved grandmother never spoke about - her father, John Louis Brown. |
|
With a musical career spanning over four decades, Oscar and Grammy-winning singer and songwriter Lionel Richie has sold over 100 million albums worldwide. He has three children and lives in Los Angeles, but he was born in Tuskegee, Alabama, and raised on the campus of the Tuskegee Institute, the highly respected historically African American university where both his mother and grandmother worked as teachers. Growing up during the time of the civil rights movement, Lionel grew up in what he calls "the bubble," believing that everything in the world was available and possible. While such a life afforded him tremendous opportunity, his parents protected him from the effects of segregation. If the Klan rallied in Tuskegee, Lionel was simply put to bed early.
