How do I vote?

Beginning June 7, 2011, there will be three ways to vote for artists/contestants on The Voice: through toll-free phone calls, through online votes via NBC.com and/or the NBC Live iPad app, and through certain iTunes purchases. For a period following each episode, eligible voters may vote up to 10 times via toll-free phone call per artist per originating phone number; up to 10 times online (through NBC.com or the NBC Live app) per artist per e-mail address; and up to 10 times per artist per iTunes account, by purchasing the contestant's then-eligible song through iTunes (up to a maximum of 10 copies).

Toll-Free Calls

Each of the artists/contestants will be assigned his or her own toll-free number (e.g., 1-855-VOICE-01 for contestant 1, 1-855-VOICE-02 for contestant 2, etc.) during the show. To vote, watch The Voice on NBC (see local listings for times in your area), and at the end of the show, and during the applicable voting window (see the When can I vote? section), dial the number of the artist for whom you wish to vote. You may vote via toll-free phone call up to 10 times per artist per originating phone number in each voting period.

Performance episodes airing June 21, 2011
Javier Colon1-855-VOICE-01
Vicci Martinez1-855-VOICE-02
Dia Frampton1-855-VOICE-03
Beverly McClellan1-855-VOICE-04
Online

Vote online through NBC.com or the NBC Live app during the applicable voting window (see the When can I vote? section). Either log on to nbc.com, or, if you own an iPad, download and open the free NBC Live application. You may download the application onto your iPad through the iTunes store. You must be an iTunes account holder to download the application.

For online voting via NBC.com or the NBC Live app, follow the on-screen instructions and complete the form(s) provided. Select the artist for whom you wish to vote. If done correctly, you will get a message on your screen thanking you for voting. You may vote online up to 10 times per artist per email address in each voting period; any attempt to vote online more than 10 times per artist per email address will NOT count, whether the votes occurred on NBC.com or via the NBC Live app. You will not be able to cast votes outside of the applicable voting window.

You must be 13 years or older to vote online. To vote online, you will need to provide your e-mail address, confirm you are 13 years of age or older, and confirm your acceptance of the voting terms and conditions.

iTunes

To vote for an artist/contestant during an episode's applicable voting period, click to download the song(s) he or she performed in competition in that episode. Each such purchase will count as one vote for that artist, up to 10 copies maximum per artist per account in each voting period. Only a download of a song performed in competition in the most recent episode (an "eligible song") during the voting period for that episode counts as a vote for the artist who performed it. Purchasing a song that the artist performed during a prior episode or any song identified on air as ineligible for the vote or not part of the competition (an "ineligible song") does NOT count as a vote. Only valid iTunes account holders will be permitted to vote in this manner. Eligible songs may become available before or after the applicable voting window opens, and remain available after the applicable voting window closes.

The producers of The Voice ("Producer") and NBC (the "Network") reserve the right to disqualify, block, or remove any votes originating from an electronic, mechanical or automated means, or originating from an individual who tampers with or otherwise obstructs the vote process, as more fully set forth in the official Vote Terms and Conditions. Rules and procedures are subject to change at the sole discretion of Producer and/or the Network without notice.

How is my vote combined with coach scoring to determine which artists advance after the semifinals performances?

After the semifinals performances, both coach score and audience vote will determine which artists advance to the final performance round. Each coach will have 100 points to split between the two artists on his or her team. The number given to each artist is their "Coach Score." Each artist will also receive an "Audience Score" that reflects his or her share (or percentage) of total votes cast for the team. This number is calculated by dividing the votes the artist received by the total votes received by that artist's team. Each artist's "Coach Score" and "Audience Score" will be added, and the artist with the higher overall number on each team will advance to the final performance round.

For example: Artist A and Artist B from Sample Team receive 1,000,000 and 3,000,000 audience votes, respectively, for a total Sample Team vote of 4,000,000. This means Artist A's Audience Score is 75 (3,000,000 divided by 4,000,000), and Artist B's Audience Score is 25 (1,000,000 divided by 4,000,000). Assume Artist A receives a Coach Score of 55 and Artist B receives a Coach Score of 45 (for a total of 100 points). To determine who advances, combine the artists' respective Audience Scores and Coach Scores:

  • Artist A: 75 + 55 = 130
  • Artist B: 25 + 45 = 70

In this example, Artist A has the higher combined score and will advance to the finals.

Any vote you attempt to cast above these limits, outside of the designated voting periods, or via ineligible song purchases will NOT count. (You must meet the requirements in the How do I vote? section for your vote(s) to count.) Producer and the Network reserve the right to disqualify, block, or remove any votes originating from an electronic, mechanical or automated means, or originating from an individual who tampers with or otherwise obstructs the voting process, as more fully set forth in the official Vote Terms and Conditions. Rules and procedures are subject to change at the sole discretion of Producer or the Network without notice.

How much does it cost to vote?

Telephone calls to the voting lines are toll-free from landlines. Airtime and applicable roaming and long distance charges may apply to cell phone calls. Contact your cell phone service provider for more information. There is no charge to vote via NBC.com or the NBC Live app, except standard Internet access charges that you may incur. When voting via iTunes, you will be charged the song download price and any applicable taxes for every purchase, whether or not it counts as a vote. Review iTunes terms of service for more information.

Can I vote using my cell phone?

Yes, you can vote using a cell phone, but airtime and applicable roaming charges may apply. Contact your cell phone service provider for more information.

What will I hear if I call the toll-free numbers?

If you call outside the voting window, you will hear a busy signal, and your call will NOT count as a vote. If you call within the voting window, you will hear a message confirming your vote. You will hear this message even after exceeding the 10-vote limit per artist/contestant per originating phone number, however, votes above the 10-vote limit will not count.

My call didn't get through, or I received a busy signal or other message - why?

The telephone network or your local phone company may be unable to handle the large volume of calls received. If you're calling during the voting window but can't get through to cast your vote, be patient and try again. If the problem persists, contact the telephone network or your local phone company.

If you are calling from a cell phone with an area code associated with a time zone different from that in which you are calling, the system will accept or reject your vote based on the time zone of your cell phone's area code and whether your call is placed during the applicable voting window.

Can I vote if I use a digital phone service or VOIP (Voice Over Internet Protocol) service to place my call?

Yes, you can vote if you place your call through some digital or Internet-based phone systems, such as Vonage or Skype. For further information, contact your digital phone or VOIP service provider.

Can I vote using a payphone?

Calls from payphones will be blocked and will NOT count as votes. Please use a landline or cell phone to call our toll-free vote lines. Charges may apply when using your cell phone.

Can I block my phone number when calling the toll-free vote lines?

If you block your phone number when calling the toll-free vote lines, your vote may NOT be counted. If you hear the message "you are calling from an invalid number," your vote will NOT count. Either unblock your phone number or use a different method of voting.
