IT'S BATTLE TIME!!!!
I know everyone thought the Blind Auditions with the cool spinning chairs and surprised coaches was the most exciting thing about this show. But honestly? I think the Battle Rounds are where it's at. Watching two amazing artists battle head to head in a sing-off to death (okay...maybe "death" is a little dramatic...) is AWESOME!!!

First, let's talk a bit about the surprise advisors our coaches brought on board: Monica, Adam Blackstone, Sia, and Reba. These four rock stars were actually picked by our coaches...our producers had nothing to do with it. And let me tell you, they FREAKED when Blake said he was bringing on Reba. I mean, c'mon! REBA FRIGGIN' MCENTIRE!! There was such a buzz during the coaching sessions with now 8 music gods and goddesses. I'm sort of shocked that not a single artist passed out during this truly unbelievable work session.
Second, let's discuss the pairings and the song choices. Once again, the coaches had full control over these decisions. Christina apparently handed in her duos and their songs to the producers, then called back an hour later to change one...then called back again to change another! The producers very kindly gave her another day to think on them, since it was obvious she cared so much about these artists, she wanted to make sure she was doing them justice.
Okay...enough with the business talk. Let's move onto the Battles!!
FRENCHIE AND TARRALYN:
After their rehearsal on stage, when Christina acknowledged that there was a little tension in the room between the two girls, that was an understatement. There was a TON of tension in that room! I was probably half a football field away at that point, and I felt like I could cut it with a knife. Those girls were out for blood. Tarralyn didn't want to let anyone in on what she was going to do, and Frenchie had to deal with a partner that let something different come out of her mouth every time they rehearsed. DRAMA would be an accurate description. But here was the exciting part: Christina didn't back down. I'm pretty sure 'couple's therapist' isn't part of her job description, but that's exactly what she did. She went from coaching these two girls as singers, to talking them through relationship issues so they could give their best performance. And I think we know by who stayed and who went home, who really took those notes to heart.
PATRICK AND TYLER:
Patrick definitely had the upper hand in this duet, solely because Tyler barely knew the song at first! (Although seriously...who doesn't know an Elvis song?!?) But Tyler is one of the hardest working people I've met on this show, and he definitely gave Patrick a run for his money. Backstage, this was one of the pairings that we were all stressing about because none of us wanted to see either of these guys go home! Sadly, we said bye to Tyler, but he's someone production will remember very fondly.
CASEY AND TIM:
I think out of all the pairings and their songs, this was my favorite. I LOVE this song, and Casey and Tim personify it perfectly. They are almost literally leather and lace. It's a little eerie how exact Adam's song choice was. Seriously, I'm listening to their performance again as I write this AND I LOVE IT!!!! Okay...enough. I'll stop now...
This was another tough one for those of us backstage. Tim and Casey are so different and so awesome, we didn't want to see either go. It was heartbreaking to let go of Tim "The King of Almost" Mahoney, but I have a feeling he's going to be rocking till the day he dies. (I also heard a rumor that he had a bit of a crush on me. BUSTED, TIM!!!!!)
Fun fact, Casey didn't want to wear that blue dress she had on. I actually tried to steal it from her wardrobe. I think we can all agree that it did her justice, right?!
VICCI AND NIKI:
Wow. I mean, seriously Cee Lo??? WHAT WERE YOU THINKING?!?!?! I knew we had some tough pairings in this competition. I did NOT think this was the one that was going to bring the house down. Obviously, Cee Lo knows he screwed up pairing these two and thereby having to send one home. I wish there had been time in the episode to show you all what happened right after he made his decision. There was not a dry eye in that studio. Production had to take a 20 minute break before everyone could get themselves back together again. Monica had tears pouring down her face. Cee Lo stopped talking to people, he was so upset. But what I can say, is that even though we said bye to Niki, I think she's going to come out of this on top: BECAUSE CEE LO GREEN OWES HER BIG TIME!!!!
That's my wrap up for the week! Check back again next week when I'll fill you in on what happened behind the scenes with the next four pairings. (I'll probably still be listening to Leather & Lace then too....)
