Hey Team Nakia!

I just finished a live video chat with hundreds of you via my Facebook page! Thank you to everyone who participated by tweeting me questions. 

The Voice is a huge hit because of YOU! I am so proud to have been a part of the first season and of course to have become a Team Cee Lo member. I feel like I gave y'all some great, very memorable performaces that we can all celebrate for years to come. But more importantly, I found you! I am so happy to have such a great fan base who are so loyal and dedicated.

Now, while you are waiting on me to release new music and hit the road touring, I need you to get behind Vicci Martinez and help Team Cee Lo win this thing! We can do it together! Just because I'm off the show, doesn't mean it's over. You see, when Cee Lo read his poem last night, I took it to heart and so should you! RED TILL I'M DEAD!! Let's all support Vicci and help her become The Voice!

I love you all and cherish every single tweet, message on Facebook, and email I get! All the folks downloading my songs from the show and my original music... THANK YOU!

Hey everybody! I am still feeling the amazing high that performing for y'all put me on tonight! It was truly a crazy one! Not only did Cee Lo save me to give me a shot at the final four of the show, but I went out there and sang for y'all and gave what I think was one of my best performances on The Voice so far.

It's also a bittersweet night as well. When I got back to the hotel room and settled in, Just found out that while I was performing tonight, back home in Alabama, my Mother had emergency surgery to save her finger after a spider bit her AND my Grandmother fell and injured herself on her way to visit her in the hospital. No one told me prior to my performance because they didn’t want me to worry prior to singing.

I know I have been hounding y’all for votes, but please pray for my Mother and Grandmother for a speedy recovery. Nothing is more important to me right now than this. I don’t even know if either of them got to watch me perform tonight. :-( 

I haven’t been able to reach either of them by phone yet, but I know they would be pushing me to have y’all vote for me, but again, I am very concerned. I love y’all and appreciate your support!

With Father's Day coming up on Sunday, I wanted to take a moment to write a blog about my dad and give you a little background about him. I also want to say Happy Father's Day to my little brother. He's a great guy and a great father to my nephew! Actually, Happy Father's Day to ALL the dad's out there! Now, onto the post...

As you know I go by my first name only…  but what you might not know is my father did too. He had a nickname and no one called him anything else.

After my Father started his service in the US Navy he was walking along and a Sergeant who wasn’t sure of my dad’s real name tried to get his attention.  After a few seconds the guy resorted to calling out the names of Mexican food items…  burrito, enchilada, and finally my dad turned when he heard him yell ‘Taco!’  From that day forward my father was known as Taco. 

My dad’s work shirts, his VFW name tags, even his hospital chart said simply ‘Taco’  and everyone called him ‘Taco.’

Nakia is not a nickname it’s my actual first name, and it’s unique enough that everyone knew exactly who you were talking about if you simply said Nakia…  so I’ve kind of taken after my father and stuck with using just one name.

Sadly my father passed away from pancreatic cancer about a year and a half ago. When we buried him, he even asked that 'Taco' be put on his gravestone. I know he's still with me in spirit though and cheering me on, so I'll make sure I close this blog with:

Roll Tide, Daddy! I miss you so much! Thank you for believing in me and always encouraging me to follow my dreams!

Hey Team Nakia fans!

I just finished voting three times for each artist who performed last week on the show! That's 8 phone call votes, 8 email votes, and 8 iTunes votes! Say, what? Keep reading for an explanation.

Last week's first live episode of The Voice was mind-blowing! I am still reeling about the amazing performances from both the artists and the coaches. Team Blake and Team Christina brought a solid show and really set the stage for what is to come this week.

So many things about The Voice are groundbreaking and exciting, and the way voting works is no exception. In fact, one of the coolest things is that voting is still open RIGHT NOW as I write this on Sunday night! It closes on Monday. THANK YOU CEE LO!!

Yesterday, Coach Cee Lo, surprised Team Cee Lo and took us to a spa for a day of relaxation and team building. He treated us to massages and took some time to get to know each member of his "Red Zone" one on one. It was a much needed break from the busy schedules we have all been under, including his own.

We talked a lot about the team, what each member brought the table, and how he felt about each one of us individually. You'll get to see it all on camera next week, so don't forget to check back here after the live show airs on Tuesday for all of the full behind the scenes videos that you might not see during the broadcast.

During my interview I got a little choked up. Being on Cee Lo's team is such an honor. He truly loves each of us and has a deep concern for who we are as artists and what happens to us once The Voice wraps. It's hard to describe what it means to be a member of Cee Lo's "Red Zone" team but I can tell you this, we are going to bring a big ol' party to The Voice stage on Tuesday night, so prepare yourselves for a Red Zone explosion of fun and of course amazing vocal performances. We are going to free your minds, people! 

Thank you again, Cee Lo for taking the time out of your busy schedule to treat us to a great day. The time we spend with you is something I will treasure for the rest of my life.
