About Me....
I'm Tim Mahoney, Singer Songwriter from Minneapolis, Minnesota. I have been doing music for 15 years throughout the Midwest. I have been using the "King of Almost" as my coin phrase. I have had some amazing opportunities that I am extremely thankful for, but haven't quite made it over that line.
How I got here...
I got a call from Michelle McNulty casting director and she asked me if I would be interested in auditioning in Minneapolis. She knew me from a show I did back a few years ago called INXS Rock Star.
What I am hoping for...
I am hoping that the exposure from this TV show will bring me to a wider audience. I have a big fan base throughout the Midwest, but haven't been able to break the Midwest region.
Auditions...
The open auditions seemed easy to me because I can come in and they seemed pretty casual. The type of auditions that I find difficult is when you are in front of executives or record labels because you know that you are really being watched. A lot more pressure comes with that. The blind audition is a lot more nerve racking because you are in front of a whole audience and you are on a huge stage. When I had Adam turn around, I wanted to make sure that I stayed true to my talent even when nobody was turning around right away. I didn't weigh in the fact what I would do when someone did turn around. So when Adam turned around I stumbled a bit because I had played in that feeling in my head. At that point I knew I wasn't the "King of Almost" anymore because I knew at that moment when the chair turned around and I was guaranteed TV time. That was my goal through this whole process. It all hit me at once on stage as that happened. I had met my goal.
Competition...
The talent here is amazing! Back home I have always been one to stand out when I was out singing. Here, I was put with an amazing group of talented singers. Late night jam sessions with all the contestants have been so unique because there isn't one person in the group that wasn't talented. My roommate that I was given has been awesome. We have come up with some very funny songs and have had some great conversation.
"Pack as if you were leaving..."
How many different times did I think I was cut throughout the process? There had to been at least 8 for sure. We were told one morning that we were to, "Pack as if you were leaving." We were told that we were moving hotels, but nobody knows for sure at this point what is going on. Was the phrase that we heard that morning. Everyone and everything is hush. We walk out to vans and they are throwing out random names, I get on my van and I'm scoping out the crew with me and I start to try distracting my mind and not thinking too much. All I could do was look around and think "I'm on the s*** bus!" not that I thought the people with me were bad at all, it just started to wrack your brain about who is who on which van.
