MY VOICE
I'm the Cajun Queen, Preachers daughter from a little town in Mississippi (Kiln) just outside of New Orleans.
I can be long winded sometimes just like my Daddy's sermons, LOL.. so don't wanna bore you, but thought I'd shed some light on WHO I Am artistically/stylistically.
If Ray Charles & Shania Twain had a baby it would be me! Aretha, Joplin and Celine would pop in for Breakfast!
I was born on Saturday & singing on Sunday! Started playing piano/hammond B3 when I was 4 in my dads tent revivals. My whole family is very musical, Mom and dad actually met playing music on Bourbon street, then they found Jesus had kids and started a gospel band. I guess you could say I was The Voice of that band and decided to take my ministry into the industry and Here I am!
I'm a very prolific songwriter, had a little success a few years ago and penned a #1 hit for Charlotte Church that became her first pop debut in Europe, That opened a lot of doors for me and now I'm ready to walk through the next one.
Here is a short list of Artist who have inspired me through the years.
As an artist I relate to Steve Winwood the most- He's a blue eyed Soul singer, who plays B3 hammond like me, and was able to transcend into popular commercial music without compromising his style.
I also believe Mahalia Jackson( God Rest Her soul) and I share very similar, parallel lives.
Mahailia, was also a southern Pentecostal Preachers daughter who played Piano. I guess you could say "We" were both classically trained in The church. She had a very unique, powerful Voice that resonated with Mainstream, while remaining true to her gospel roots. She is from New Orleans and Has a center there today for Charities.
I can only hope that someday "My Voice" has such an impact.
Ray Charles, Bob Dylan, Sam Cooke, Celine Dion, Mariah Carey, Alisha Keys, Prince, Steve Perry, Aerosmith, Rod Stewart and John Mayer have also been artist I respect, admire and enjoy.
