This folk-singing Berklee College of Music graduate is no stranger to paying dues. For the past four years, she's traveled through 35 states playing shows in every conceivable venue. She jams on her dad's old guitar and funded her last album with donations from fans. This Atlanta, Georgia indie singer is searching for stability and won't stop until she finds it.

A Slightly Awkward Duet ...

Wow, what an intense 48 hours!  We met with our coaches and learned our pairings and song assignments for the Battle Round. This has always been the part of the process that I'm most nervous about - I am not a very competitive person (I'm the oldest of 4 siblings and had to learn early in life that it's way more fun to play nice :-), especially when it comes to music.  I have this deep conviction that there is enough room in this world for everyone to express themselves and find happiness.  It seems that if, as a professional music, you spend energy begrudging other people their happiness, that's just energy you could be spending on pursuing your own.

I'll confess that when I came out to LA to audition for the show I didn't really expect to make it as far as the Battle Rounds, so I didn't really give much though to preparing mentally for the experience.  So now here I am, and the best I can think of to do is approach it like a duet - a slightly awkward duet, but a duet nonetheless.  And the great news is that I get to sing a song that I love with a person that I get along really well with.  I can't really control what Adam's looking for, so I'll just focus on getting the song sounding as good as possible and let the rest work itself out.

r.Rebecca_van.JPGK, now time to practice.  Gotta go get some rest!
