WOW!
I don't know how else to describe what happened yesterday during the Blind Audition. As I walked through the stage door and onto to the stage, I felt calm and collected. But the moment that the band began to play Cee Lo's, "Forget You," and I put the microphone to my mouth to sing, I was no longer in control. I truly felt like I was having an out of body experience.

What seemed like an eternity was actually only 1 minute and 50 seconds. I had less than two minutes to convince the coaches, using only my vocal ability, that I was worth taking a shot on... That I was the voice. I remember some of the faces in the audience and I remember singing my heart out, but I can't remember what it sounded like. I do remember waiting and hoping that one of the coaches would turn around.
And then it happened... Cee Lo pushed his button and his chair turned around!! I get a little choked up every time I have thought about it since. It was so gratifying, so validating. I was singing HIS song! Knowing that he felt strongly enough to push the button and give me one of the 8 slots on his team, that believed in me enough to choose me and mentor me through this process... WOW! I made sure to sing directly to him for a moment and then...
It happened again!! This time it was Blake Shelton who's chair turned around and I was shocked! Not one, but two of these superstar coaches were ready to work with me and take a chance on helping me to become the voice! The band finished the song, I took a breath and walked back to center stage as the other two coaches, who had decided to not push their buttons, turned around.
Everyone had great feedback. Adam loved my voice, but just felt like we weren't a good match. Christina thought I was vocally aggressive, but she just wasn't ready to commit. Cee Lo chuckled as he told me that he loved my taste in music and thought I had a great voice. He said he liked my style and believed he could really help me become a great artist. Blake agreed that he was a fan of my voice, but admitted that it wasn't the reason he pushed his button. Apparently he was blown away by the audience reaction to me and felt like he was missing out by not pushing the button.
When it came time for me to ask Cee Lo and Blake why I should choose them to be my coach, Cee Lo gave some valid reasons, but Blake could only give me one reason. He said Cee Lo dressed like a peacock and would probably make me dress that way too. I was raised on Elton John and David Bowie so the thought of extravagant costumes isn't a turn-off by any means! So, with that, I looked at Cee Lo and told him that he was the guy. I left the stage and headed backstage where the show's host, Carson Daly, had been watching my audition with my partner, Robert.
I immediately ran into Robert's arms, jumping and screaming. I cried a little bit and was so thankful that he was there to share that moment with me. We've been together for over 9 years and he's seen me go through a lot to get to this point, so it was truly a very special moment for us both. I told Carson, that it couldn't be a bad thing to be dressed like a peacock because we are on NBC! LOL!
Again, I am truly grateful for this opportunity and I can't wait to see what happens next.
