V-Correspondent - Javier Colon

Javier Colon's blog

This soulful pop singer's father worked at a radio station, immersing his son in music from an early age; by 13, Javier was writing his own songs. His young talent led to touring gigs and even a contract with Capitol Records, but his career never really took off. Now, the devoted husband and father of two is taking a final shot at pursing his musical dreams before leaving music behind to support his family.

The Blind Auditions

That audition was the most difficult, yet most amazing thing I've ever done. The pressure was insane. Knowing that there were millions upon millions of people watching was pretty un-nerving but I'm just glad its over. (Well, at least till the next show)

I've got to be honest. I was worried about my song choice for the blind audition. There are so many talented singers here and they were going out there belting their hearts out and singing all these crazy runs. My song, "Time After Time" by Cyndi Lauper, is a great song and I love performing it, but I was afraid it wasn't going to be impressive enough compared to the other artists on the show. I basically told myself that none of the coaches were going to turn around early in the song. I was hoping I'd maybe get someone to turn around after the only high note in the song, which is in the chorus.

To my surprise, Adam and Cee Lo turned around in the first verse, which I couldn't believe. I was so relieved but I wasn't done yet so I had to keep it together and finish the song. When Christina turned around towards the end of the first chorus I was like "YEEEEEEEEEEES". I've loved Christina's voice since she came out so to know that she liked what I was doing was a huge victory for me. When Blake turned around I just couldn't believe it. I had thought about the possibility of all 4 coaches turning around but I just wasn't expecting it. I can't even explain the feelings running through me when I finished that song. The studio audience was absolutely amazing. They stood up and just kept screaming. It was a very surreal, slow motion like, heart stopping, moment. I will never forget it for as long as I live.

When it came time to choose a coach, I knew what I was looking for but I was going to have to start asking questions. Going into this, I told myself that If I had the opportunity to choose between 2 or more coaches, that decision would be heavily based on who seemed most excited about me. At the end of the day, the coach you choose is going to be the person that is going to keep you in this competition if they really believe in you. If they are just lukewarm about your performance, you could get sent home in the coming rounds. Adam was out in front from the start. He said all the right things right away, which caught my attention. He definitely has the gift of persuasion. Though every coach had really nice things to say, Adam just took it five steps further than anyone else. He really seemed like a believer and that's why I chose him. It was a gut feeling that I just went with and I feel great about it. I truly felt I could learn a whole lot from any single one of them. They all have been in the business for a long time at the level that I aspire to be at. I would have been happy if only one turned around during my performance, but I'm honored that things went down like they did. I'm so happy to be here. Well, that's, one obstacle down, many more to go.

Thanks for checking in and for all the love and support. I'll talk to you soon.
