Baptized by Blake
I am country, I am rock. The battle is over, the show has moved on, but the battle of the genre has begun. It hasn’t been much of a shock to me to be labeled as “The Rock Guy”. Obviously, by the way I dress and sing, rock runs deep. However, growing up in a town of 2,000 in Arkansas has also had its influence.
My lyrics have always been the drive of my music. The stories are all real, and therefore they are all me. And I was country. But it only took one short comment from a man I highly respect, to be instantly entered into a whole new world. Born again, you could say. It’s a welcome change, but I don’t feel like it’s a change at all. I don’t think about rock or country when I write or perform; I just let whatever comes out, come out.
My hope is that you, the fans, will continue to be supportive as the new music unfolds. The types of fans I have have been supportive for the realness of the music, not for a particular sound. I know the music will only continue to speak for itself and to get better.
