V-Correspondent - Jared Blake

Jared Blake's blog

This 32-year-old singing and songwriting veteran is no stranger to the music business. He's worked with Gretchen Wilson, Big and Rich, and The Goo Goo Dolls among others, but personal setbacks have kept him from reaching the top. A father of six, he knows that second chances don't come along often - and he's determined to make the most of his.

Post Battle Feelings

I couldn't have been more excited to meet Blake, and get to hear the song selection and battle pairing. Blake was pretty much what I expected, a real down to earth-speak his mind-funny-smartass kinda guy. My kinda guy. However, what happened next was not expected.  I was in the first pairing that Blake told us about. I can't remember if Blake called out my name or Elenowen first, but I do remember the shock. I had no idea who they would pair me with. There's not another one like me on the show, you know?  There also wasn't another duo in the group either, I suppose. Um, it felt kinda like the odd ball out battle. I have to admit it was a pretty intimidating to be going up against a duo.  One voice against two... come on man! As if the pairing wasn't odd enough, then came the song selection, "Aint No Mountain High Enough". What?   A pop/folk duo against a country/rock guy on a Marvin Gaye song?  Nothing but pure shock baby!!! There was absolutely no way to have any idea how this thing would go.  It is a soul song so that may have worked in my favor; however, it's still against two voices, two great voices at that. It was nice to have the coaches watching your performance this time. I know the show is called "The Voice", but even the most amazing voices in there world have a pretty kickass show. This was an area I felt pretty confident in.  After all, I've been doing this my whole life.  I gave it everything I've got.

h.Jared_rocks.JPGI have no idea what was going on before the Battle Round.  My head was spinning, pumped with adrenaline, and just ready to get it on (ha ha, get it). So, with one last check of my fly I hit the stage. The next few minutes were a blur, but a freakin' blast. To have millions of viewers in the palm of your hand, it really just doesn't get any better than that! The greatest part was that it didn't feel like a battle in the slightest just three performers doin' what they do. If I seemed aggressive, you'll soon find out that's just me.
