Yesterday was very emotional. I got up and got ready early. Before I
knew it, the battle rounds were here. Just like that, all this waiting,
all this work and boom there it is. I wonder if everyone likes the fact
that Lily and I get along or not. I think it would be more interesting
if we didn't so it would be more like a "fight to the death" kinda
thing, but that's just not the case. I adore Lily. I've had a great time
working with her and feel fortunate to be paired with her.

After waiting a few hours it was time to head backstage. I got a strange feeling, like I knew this wasn't going to be my time. It didn't matter how hard I had worked or how bad I wanted it, I knew in my gut I wasn't meant to win. I had felt this feeling earlier in the week but tried to ignore it as the battle round got closer. In order to go out and perform well you have to give yourself the mental "pep-talks", but no matter how many times I tried to convince myself I was going to go out there and win, my gut knew differently.

I stood there and saw Reba McEntire sitting next to Blake. Looking at her sitting there with her bright red hair and smile across her face I couldn't believe how funny God is. I requested to meet Reba when she recorded a song I had written called "Turn On The Radio". I have wanted to meet her for years, but it just never worked out. Now here I was, and not only was I going to get to meet her, I was going to get to perform in front of her ... It was so surreal. As I walked on stage, Reba recognized me and mouthed the words, "Cherie, Oh my gosh!!!" I was so giddy and then the song started. It was crazy! I had a ball performing with Lily. I wasn't concerned about anything except having a blast up on that stage and soaking in every moment of it. When our performance was over I was just thrilled to stand in front of Reba and FINALLY get to meet her. She told the whole audience about how I wrote her song and that we've never gotten to meet ... It was the moment of a lifetime. Like a dream!

I wound up not moving fwd. Ultimately Christina chose Lily to stay. I felt sort of numb at first. I wasn't happy because obviously I lost (and I lost in front of Reba!), but I wasn't terribly sad either. After I met my family in the back room I started to feel all the human emotions of embarrassment, humiliation and sadness, but more than any of those feelings I felt an enormous amount of gratitude. I lost and it was ok. I didn't feel like I had been done wrong or that it was unfair. Christina has stated that she felt out of her comfort zone with country music and gravitates towards soul singers. Lily, is 100% a soul singer and in the end is a much better fit for Christina. I am truly thrilled that God has allowed me to have this experience and this incredible platform to finally sing on my own.

After we had walked off stage Lily blew me away with her reaction. She hugged me and then broke down in tears and told me she thought I deserved to win. Well that did it- I started balling! Her humbleness and sincerity moved me beyond words! She was thrilled that I had that moment with Reba, and I was thrilled for her to move fwd. I'll be voting for her!

This show has been an amazing experience from day one. No one here has ever referred to us as contestants, we have always been called artists. They've given us each not only a massive platform of exposure, but released singles on us, gave us websites and a way to continue to increase a fan base. I'm grateful! You win some, you lose some, but this doesn't have to be the end of the road for anyone. All that matters is what YOU are going to do with the opportunity God has given you. I'm so thankful to have gotten to work with everyone on "The Voice", from the artists to the producers, the band to the production team. They all made my experience a wonderful one, and I will always consider my time on the show an incredible blessing. I hope that people will continue to follow and support me in the future. I hope this shows continues for years and helps people get closer to their dream. I know it's brought me closer to mine ...

Today was a big day! We all met with our coaches and found out who we're battling and what we are singing ... nail biter for sure! I'm not gonna lie ... I've been so nervous about this. It's very difficult to have someone else choose a song for you. You want to feel like you're going to be given a fair shot and have something that allows you to shine just as much as everyone else. We all stood in a line when we met Christina as she made the big announcement. She chose Lily to be paired with me/against me singing "Since U Been Gone." I was shocked. Lily and I could not be MORE opposite as far as music goes. I do love the song but didn't feel like it would showcase me with what I can do. Christina was great to work with. She came across as a strong, confident woman who is 100% professional but also warm, funny and sweet. It was a pleasure to work with her! She divided up the song between us, and that was difficult. It was at the end of a long day and neither one of us had a chance to sing through it or anything before we were singing in front of Christina. It was hard not being able to warm up and to be given an incredibly challenging song. I didn't have the chance to know what I could and/or could not do in it before I was standing in front of everyone with cameras all around. I am happy to have the day over with and know what I'm singing on so I can get to work on it. I must admit, I do feel like I have a disadvantage being the only person on her entire team that's not a soul singer ... I am hoping that my disadvantage could become my advantage. Maybe she will find working with someone who is so different (from the Country world) an enticing challenge...you just never know. Time to get to work!

Living in a hotel gets very expensive when it comes to food so my roommie Casey and I were on a budget! I decided I wanted something healthy and inexpensive so I ordered food from this Greek Restaurant up the street. Well, you know how you shouldn't go to the grocery store if you're starving because you end up buying a lot more than you don't need? Yeah same goes for ordering delivery! I ordered an entire marinated chicken, a huge thing of rice, a large Greek salad and lots of pita bread with hummus. A family of 5 or 6 could all eat well from this meal! I felt like that episode of "I Love Lucy" where she ordered a whole side of a cow when they delivered it! It was awesome though. Casey and I wound up splitting it and there were still TONS of food left. I thought, "I'll have plenty of leftovers I can refrigerate and save money tomorrow! The one thing I DIDN'T think about was how strong Greek food smells ... On day 1 I ate left over's, but there was still a TON of food left so back in the fridge it went. By day 2 after we had ordered the food, Casey and I were wondering what in the world was wrong with our room. Our room stunk, and it stunk BAD. Casey wandered around the room bent over following her nose trying to figure out where it was coming from ... It was AWFUL. Then I thought about the food, "Uh oh." When Casey was in the shower I opened the fridge door and nearly passed out ... It was like someone had refrigerated a dirty diaper. I took the food out and threw it away in the vending machine room ... Casey came out of the shower and said, "Our room smells like farts" ... I felt HORRIBLE. It was all my fault! Of course I apologized I even offered to buy her dinner to try to make up for it. She was awesome about it and assured me it was ok. Of course it was not. We tried everything to de-smell our room. Candles, air freshener, maids, baking soda in the fridge ... Nothing worked. For days our room WREAKED. I'm lucky to have such a sweet roommate because I'm sure anybody else would have killed me! Finally Casey called to get a new fridge.

When it was delivered ... the man went to stack it on top of the other
instead of loading the old one up to take away... Casey started to say
something, but greed had taken over me. The thought of having two
refrigerators was just too good ... So I jumped in. Casey looked at me
like she was about to kill me. When he left I explained my plan. If I
could not get the smell out then out it would go, but if I could, then
we could have 2 refrigerators! She joined in with the plan and we were
determined! Together I am proud to say we conquered the smell! We have
our two refrigerators loaded up with yogurt, lunch meat, cheese, milk,
jams and mayo ... People are fridge-envious and we are victorious ☺

Aftermath of the Blind Auditions

Sleep Sleep Sleep!!!! This stuff is so emotionally and physically draining I slept for forever! I had a blast with my family tonight! They had a little celebration prepared for me in their room ... It was so sweet. I broke my strict vocal diet and ate pizza and chocolate! It was SO much fun. We all laughed and laughed at the stories we will have about the emotional roller coaster it's been. I am so glad they got to be here and experience this ride with me. I'm so thankful I have such a beautiful family. God has really been good. I can't help but sit here and think of all the crazy roads he's let me walk down and all the amazing experiences he's allowed me to have. I'm going to bed tonight praying for the people who didn't make it. Knowing that it meant the world to everyone, not just me. Knowing how hard people have worked and how for some reason this wasn't the right time for them ... I'm praying that other doors open up for them and that they don't lose heart. I've been turned away so many times in my life, I know how it feels. It makes me know just how thankful to feel ... Good night.

MY BLIND AUDITION

Yesterday was my blind audition. What a roller coaster of emotions! I woke up at 5 to be ready to leave at 7 a.m. My family and I went to The Voice bright and early to wait in line to audition. I was surprised I wasn't exhausted because I hadn't slept AT ALL last night! I just kept having these horrible nightmares! I was standing on stage on national tv with everyone I used to work with watching from their living rooms and as my song finishes, NO ONE turned around. Each time this scenario would play in my head my heart would sink and I'd feel a cold chill run down my spine. It was honestly, terrifying!

The min. we all arrived at the studio where The Voice was I got so nervous. And when I went to the bathroom and heard so many different singers warming up their voices, it definitely did not help! When Carson Daily came into the Lobby area (where we were all waiting) I overheard him interviewing different contestants and everyone else seemed really confident. I thought, "what's wrong with me? Why can't I be like that?" Instead my stomach was in knots all day. It's not that I'm not confident or that I don't believe in myself, it's just that this opportunity means so much to me. When Carson walked up and interviewed my family and me I blurted out that I was scared to death. I think I even mentioned my nightmares! My mind was on ONE thing, those blind auditions, and a chair turning around for me! By this time we had waited nearly 7 hours then my mom left to head to the studio audience and the rest of my family got down on their knees as my dad lead in prayer.

The show started and we all (contestants) gathered around and watched as all of the coaches (Cee Lo, Adam, Blake and Christina) all performed "Crazy." It was AMAZING! Immediately I was flooded with emotions. And I knew I was moments away from standing on that same stage and singing ... as an artist. My eyes swelled up with tears and it hit me ... I was finally going to get my shot. My name got called. The rest of my family were taken to a room backstage where they would watch on a monitor (yikes!) and I was taken backstage. I began pacing like a mad woman going over my lyrics and praying like a Pentecostal! By this time, my nerves had long left me and all I could feel was gratitude and a CRAZY amount of excitement! Then I was handed the mic. I walked out of the door and up the stairs to a quiet that was deafening! I searched to find my star to stand on. Then the music started. It was amazing, I didn't feel any nerves at all. The audience almost immediately recognized my song "Gunpowder and Lead." Their enthusiasm was so awesome that I didn't even notice or care about the chairs. Finally as my song drew to the end I realized that no one had turned around. I thought to myself, "It's ok, it's over and it's ok." I wasn't sad, I wasn't hurt, I wasn't angry ... I was just happy to have been there. Then all of the sudden on the last note of my song a chair turned around. It was Christina Aguilera. I was stunned! I didn't know what to say! I hope I don't look like an idiot when I watch this thing! All I could think of was, "What? Did this just happen? That's Christina Aguilera, did she just turn around for ME??" I just never imagined in a millions years she would turn around for me. I have admired her since I auditioned for the Mickey Mouse Club years ago - I just think she's amazing! I had originally hoped for Blake, after all I sing country music, but I couldn't have been more blown away and excited with Christina!

I was disappointed in what Blake had said ... but it's ok. I made it past the Blind auditions!!! I couldn't have been happier. I went backstage to see my family. Poor Carson, I think we all pretty much ignored him. What an incredible day that I will never ever forget!!!! All the pressure was off, for now ... I feel so blessed to have had this opportunity and to have made it this far ... No matter what happens next I will always be thankful for what has happened so far.

My Initial Thoughts about "The Voice"

Well, I'm here and this is ... interesting! I have just soaked a lot of things in. I watch how people interact and handle themselves. I've definitely had my inner rolling the eyes and thinking "Oh brother!" moments like hearing a conversation take place where a girl was going on and on about what's so hot about herself. Do people REALLY talk like that?? I've also had moments where I sat next to someone and within 5 min. wondered if I'll have to room with that person and if so, knowing that I'd have to shoot myself.

I've also had genuine and interesting conversations with a lot of people
who have done a lot in their careers already and come from a more
humble place ... I gravitate towards these people ... I see how some people
are the attention seekers and wonder if it's a bad thing that I'm not ... I
don't think it's good that no one can remember how to pronounce my name
but it's just not me to fight for attention, so in a crowd a many
attention seekers ... I'm not the one that's remembered or the one that
sticks out ... These shows are funny, you starts to wonder so many things
and wonder what winds up being good or bad. At the end of the day, I'm
just me and people will either like me or not ... I don't know how to be
anything else but me. Everyone with the production team are just
awesome. I am really having the time of my life so far and I enjoy being
so busy ... I love to work, I love being busy ...
