Not knowing who I was going to be paired up against at first was stressful: all of the artists in this competition are immensely talented. I was ultimately paired with Justin Grennan
to battle The Who's "Baba O'Riley." I was completely stoked about the song... how could I not be? I was eager for us to sound great together and to finally hear him sing! Wow! I believe we made a soulful and powerful duo, especially after rehearsing with the band. Romeo, one of the contestants' vocal coaches working for 'The Voice,' was like a guardian angel during rehearsal: his enthusiasm for our performance was empowering. Our coach, Christina
, gave Justin
and I her blessings and told us to 'sing our hearts out and bring our A-game' to the stage, and I believe we both did!
During the battle, I remember the roar of the crowd and seeing the
smiling coaches, clapping their hands and dancing in their seats to our
performance. I was happy and blessed to be singing my heart out for all
of them and honored to be representing Christina's
I can't believe the loving response I received after finishing the song,
or the intense moments when my heart was beating and I felt like I was
swallowing lumps. I was honored to share the stage with Justin
. All I
remembering thinking to myself was that God must be with me, and my
grandma, too. I can't believe I did, ya'll.
