Yesterday we had the Butterball Turkey on our show, and he was more than candid about his Thanksgiving plans. I caught up with him backstage to check up on his giblets and get a closer look at our feathered friend:
Also, many of you are stuffed from Thanksgiving dinner, but we wanted to be sure you had Marjorie Johnson’s Turkey Pot Pie recipe from tonight’s show. Here you go:
Turkey Pot Pie
1/4 cup butter
1/3 cup flour
1/2 cup chopped onions
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon pepper
2 cups chicken broth
2 cups leftover vegetables (carrots, peas,whole kernel corn)
3 cups cubed cooked turkey
Place vegetables and turkey in a large bowl. Melt butter in a frying pan. Sauté the onions. Add flour and stir in the flour,salt ad pepper and then add the chicken broth gradually stirring to a smooth mixture and thickened. Add to vegetables and turkey, mixing well. Pour into baking dish. Cover with the pastry,seal the edges and flute.. Bush top with milk and cut slits in the top for steam. Bake at 425 degrees of 15 to 20 minutes or till crust is golden.
Pie Crust
2 1/4 cup flour
1 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup Crisco
1/4 cup butter
4 to 5 tablespoons ice cold water
Combine flour and salt. Cut in Crisco and butter till fat particles are the size of peas. Add the water gradually, tossing with the flour mixture. Gather dough to a ball. Divide into 2 equal parts. Make each into a 6" disk. Refrigerate. When cold roll out to fit the top of the baking dish. Then follow directions given above. .
Note: Can be put in 6 individual baking dishes.
