Case Files - Sarah Holt

Week 2: Margaret Whitaker

Second meeting with client.

Clarification on client occupation - insurance adjustor. Used to walking her own clients through "messed-up" system, i.e. clearly not optimistic re: her current situation. Also, referred to herself as "a Christian woman."

Accused of murdering Margaret Whitaker, age 71, under hospice care. Client claims to have met Whitaker in waiting room of "new" doctor's office in D.C. one week prior to incident. Whitaker had just fired an "abusive" [Whitaker's verbiage] hospice worker, asked client to stay with her overnight. Client consented.

On the night in question, client put Whitaker to bed, then put on cross pendant necklace [stated that she "knew it was wrong"]. Deceased's son, out-of-town deputy sheriff Eugene Whitaker [Ray check out] let himself in with key, claiming he got a call from hospice. Surprised to see client, who "got scared" and left the premises - still wearing necklace. Eugene followed her to street, gun drawn, saying he found his mother dead.

UPDATE: Ruckeyeser believes client was in process of robbing the deceased. ME's report determines Whitaker's cause of death - asphyxiation.
