Creating the look and feel of a secret military base in the mountains of Alaska was no small task for the production team. From a few simple yet descriptive words written in the pilot script, the production designer and his team created the world of Mount Inostranka, Alaska. First and foremost, they chose the palette, eliminating all color from the design and finally settling on three gradients of grey from white to black. Then at the physical location, the team leveled out the concrete, added floor grates, and dressed the set with military cases and vehicles. The set exteriors needed to reflect the snowy mountains and wintry look of Alaska. With a combination of set dressing and special effects, the team created the look and feel of a winter storm.
