Citizens of Palm City, the hour is upon us. Well, the two hours are upon us. Sunday at 9pm the wait is finally over and I can tell you we're pretty damn excited over here in the Cape universe. Not only am I very, very proud of the work of our cast and crew but I'm also proud of some of the advance praise that's come our way from the New York Times, LA Times, Variety, EW, AOL, the Boston Globe, New York Daily News, Chicago Sun Times, Howard Stern and on and on. By and large it seems to me people are embracing what we're trying to do here, which is create a living, breathing comic book world on TV, a costumed-crime-drama that is character driven and different from anything else out there right now.And I want to personally thank everyone who has posted on this site or just checked us out. It was really heartening for me to see that early interest and enthusiasm. It really motivated me to deliver the best stories I could and trust me, there were terrific suggestions made that I took to heart, suggestions that impacted the show. Hopefully, you'll remain the frontline of a growing Cape army once everyone has a chance to see what we're up to.
And as a reward for being first let me give you the skinny on our CREATE-A-CAPE-VILLAIN-CONTEST. Come on, you know you have one. Even from when you were kids. Who was that super cool ass-kicker that you imagined in your very own comic book? Well, now that character can come to life on an episode of the Cape. Mine was Chess. Do you have the stuff to come up with someone that can go toe-to-toe with him? Or Scales? Submit your description and a sketch to the good folks at NBC.COM and follow the instructions and I'll check 'em out and pick the winner. Remember no superpowers. Or, at least, you better have a very good real world explanation. Beyond that let your imaginations run wild.
So let me give you a snapshot of where we stand in production: we are in the middle of shooting episode 8, the 2nd part of a wild 2-parter with an amazing guest cast that includes Glen Fitzgerald, Ileanna Douglas and Tom Noonan of X-Files fame, a story arc that has shocking revelations and long lasting implications for our dear Miss Orwell.
We're still working on FX shots for Episode 3 entitled Kozmo as well as posting episodes 4, 5, 6 and 7. Yikes. Lots to do still. Me and my brother just finished writing Episode 9 - a classic Vinnie Jones episode and certainly one of the more brutal episodes of the Cape we've written. Episode 10 is also going to be a real shocker. In fact there is a building intensity to the last several episodes that is really exciting. Major, major changes are afoot. No one is safe. And our initial conversations about a (knock on wood several times) 2nd season are even wilder.
So tell your friends, spread the word, set your TIVOs and grab your popcorn, sit back and enjoy the ride. Thanks again to everyone for their thoughts, questions, criticisms and comments. I read them all. We'll talk soon.
