Peter Fleming, the billionaire owner of ARK Corporation, is a brilliant strategist with a background in engineering and sharp business acumen. The combination of his family's wealth and his own brand of genius allowed for the creation and operation of the international conglomerate that ARK has become. ARK operates in war theaters in 17 nations, and Fleming's current vision is for ARK to attain a similar pervasive presence in the U.S., by operating privatized police forces in cities across the country.
Fleming is a private man who leads a solitary existence, often playing games of chess with himself. Fleming has a particular affinity for chess, and seeks out the challenge of worthy opponents in that and other pursuits.
After his new employee, Vince Faraday, threatens to expose some
illegal activity in which ARK is engaged, Fleming reveals to him that he
possesses an alter ego, Chess. In Chess' name, Fleming has
committed a number of horrifying, violent crimes, including several
murders. As Chess, Fleming truly allows his darker nature to express
itself unchecked.
