What were some of the advantages or disadvantages of being paired with a partner?
Curtis: One of the primary advantages is that you have somebody who completely knows you. And they are going through all the same struggles that you are. They are there to listen to you vent and secondly, they know the right things to say to push you in the right direction. It's great to have a partner if you are down and want to give up, because they are right there to encourage you. A disadvantage of having a partner is you get sympathetic when they are down and that can hinder them from trying to grow from this experience.
Mallory: The downside of having a partner is that you are worried about disappointing them.
How did the show bring you two closer?
Curtis: We were brought closer as partners when we had to learn everything together. From nutrition to diet and exercise, we were getting the facts together as a team. And together we can encourage each other. It pulled us together. Everything had the words "together" in it.
Mallory: It brought us closer because it was just another one of life's challenges that we can say we conquered together. And now that we have to continue to motivate and lose weight for the finale, it's just another thing we get to look forward to together.
What will you miss most about the campus?
Curtis: I will miss seeing and working out with my friends everyday. Secondly and equally, I will miss the trainers. They inspired us tremendously.
Mallory: It's funny to say I will miss the long workouts at the ranch, because they are not fun, but I say that because it's hard to find the time to do that on your own. I will miss the trainers, a lot. Having their words of encouragement to get us to the next level.
What is the most important tip the trainers gave you?
Curtis: They reminded us that they are not there to save our lives. We have the power to make those changes. All of the power and all of the endurance is within us. We are responsible to empower ourselves.
Mallory: I now remember to consider my heart rate in my exercises. This was something completely new to start taking into consideration during my workouts.
