What were the advantages or disadvantages of being paired up with your partner?
Ali: I think the advantages are obvious. She's my mom. Whenever I am feeling emotions, I could share them with her. Any emotions. But, that's the double-edged sword. She's my mom. We have a lifetime commitment to each other and our actions.
Bette-Sue: Ali is very driven and she pushed me. I GUESS that's an advantage.
How did being paired up bring you two closer?
Ali: I think being on the ranch and going through the same struggles as her brought us closer. We were able to work on our communication. I think my fat is an emotional fat, so dealing with that and having my mom there and being able to work out certain things definitely brought us closer.
Bette-Sue: You can't go through that much pain and come out of this and not be closer.
What will you miss most about the ranch?
Ali: I will miss the trainers. It's bittersweet, they killed us every week, but they have a way of pushing you in the gym. It's hard staying motivated when they are not around. They gave me this opportunity to go home and take a lifelong look at my health.
Bette-Sue: At first, I hated those trainers. I didn't really hate them, but I didn't have any other options. I will miss having all of that healthy food available to me at anytime. It was a new way of life. Now, we have to push ourselves to exercise on our own, we have to purchase food that we know will be good for us.
What are some of the most important tips the trainers gave you?
Ali: They told me to ask myself, "Why don't I deserve to be healthy and beautiful?" It's something you forget and you have to believe it. You do deserve to be healthy and fit and beautiful!
Bette-Sue: It always goes back to those words of encouragement that Bob says.
