Healthy Lunches

There are plenty of great options for kids lunches:

  1. Sandwiches - Most kids love sandwiches, but to mix it up and keep it interesting, cut sandwiches in triangles or different shapes using a cookie cutter.
  2. Wraps - Transform their favorite PBJ, turkey and Swiss, or light cream cheese and veggie sandwiches into a burrito-shaped sandwich wraps (or tuck the fillings in mini whole-grain pita breads.
  3. Kabobs - make fruit fun by cutting in bite-size pieces and threading on a skewer with grapes and melon cubes.
  4. Chips - baked chips and salsa or black bean dip make a welcome alternative to individual pkgs of fried snacks.
  5. Mini-muffins - Whole grain muffins with fruit and nuts double as dessert when baked in mini-muffin pans.
  6. Get figgy - whole grain fig bars are a favored sweet treat that are loaded with fiber and vitamins and low in sugar.
  7. Yogurt - small cartons of yogurt make a welcome addition to any lunchbox; tuck in a small bag of their favorite "toppings" to stir in -- trail mix, nuts, raisins, or dried fruit.
  8. Cheese and Crackers is a great way to add a serving of dairy and whole grains to their lunchbox. Choose whole grain crackers and small cubes or squares of their favorite cheeses.
