Joe Ostaszewski was a star athlete in high school along with his identical twin brother, Henry, playing on the varsity football team and eventually earning a full scholarship to Florida State University. He received a bachelor of science degree in criminology and a master's degree in sports management, and also attended the State of Florida Fire College and the police academy. Growing up in Boynton Beach, Florida with his brother and two younger sisters, the Emerson, New Jersey native was an active, athletic child. But his weight really increased at age 28, when he began exercising less, but continued to eat like an active football player. A sedentary job didn’t help, either. Now, at age 43 and 364 pounds, Joe is experiencing weight- related health issues like sleep apnea, hypertension and high cholesterol. His "aha moment" came when he and his overweight brother were sitting in the cardiac intensive care unit, waiting to see if their father was going to survive triple bypass surgery. It was the wake-up call he needed to lose the weight or else risk the same fate as his father. Joe looks forward to skydiving, kayaking and being a better role model for the kids he and his brother help through their non-profit organization called "Wear Your Soul," which inspires kids to live a healthy lifestyle through outdoor sports.
