I have struggled with my weight ever since I was in elementary school, but it wasn't until after I had my son Benjamin in 2006 that I realized just how bad things were. I'm 5'7 and I weighed 273 pounds. I had a hard time coming to terms with the fact that I allowed myself to weigh almost 300 pounds. In the summer of 2006 I decided that I needed to do something different if I wanted to be a good role-model for my son. I decided to change my eating habits and joined the YMCA. I also auditioned for the Biggest Loser and was called back, but because I was doing so well I wasn't selected. From June 2006 until September 2007 I lost 104 pounds and felt wonderful. I have kept it off since then and have also inspired my mom to lose over 120 pounds! I work as a guidance counselor and my students have even commented on how great I look and ask how I did it. My "tricks" are to stop eating once I feel full, there is no harm in taking home food from a restaurant or to have leftovers and to stay active.
