Bill Goldberg
"You're only as good as your weakest link."
From pro football and pro wresting to the world of television and film, Bill Goldberg's rise to stardom has been nothing short of spectacular.
The son of a concert violinist and a physician, Goldberg was born and raised in Tulsa, Oklahoma. He was a high school letterman in several sports and in college, started as an All-SEC defensive lineman for the University of Georgia Bulldogs, which led to stints with the Sacramento Surge, the Los Angeles Rams and the Atlanta Falcons. In 1995 he signed with the Carolina Panthers, but a serious injury forced him to retire from football. Later, Goldberg exploded onto the wrestling scene in 1997 with Turner Sports' World Championship Wrestling (WCW). His meteoric rise to superstardom culminated when he defeated Hulk Hogan in front of 42,000 people at the Georgia Dome to win the heavyweight title. Goldberg has transcended wrestling by being one of the first legitimate professional athletes to become a wrestling superstar. Since then he has been named one of the 100 most powerful people in the sports industry by "The Sporting News," has graced magazine covers from "Entertainment Weekly" to "TV Guide" and has had articles in "People," "Spin," "Rolling Stone," "Gear" and "USA Today."
Goldberg is a unique combination of brains, brawn, and charisma and currently hosts the reality series "Bullrun" for the Speed Channel. He will also host the DIY Network's reality series "Garage Mahal." Prior to these hosting roles, however, he was the host/star of History Channel's "Automaniacs" in 2005. Goldberg's other credits include starring roles in films such as "Half Past Dead 2," "The Longest Yard" opposite Adam Sandler, "Santa's Slay," produced by Brett Ratner, "Looney Toones: Back in Action" opposite Steve Martin, "Universal Soldier II," "Ready to Rumble," and "Fast Glass." In 2010, Goldberg will star in "Barry Minkow" and "Holly, Jingles and Clyde 3D." His other television credits include guest-starring roles on HBO's "Arliss," "Yes, Dear," "Law & Order: SVU" and "Desperate Housewives."
Goldberg is also very philanthropic and demonstrates his undying love for children by supporting Communities 4Kids in support of "The One Good Turn Ranch 4Kids," "The Darrel Gwynn Foundation," "Progeria Research" and the "Make-A-Wish Foundation" as well as many other children's organizations. He has also donated a scholarship to the University of Georgia as well as served as a spokesman for the Humane Society of the United States, which led him to testify twice before Congress on behalf of animal rights.
In his free time, Goldberg indulges his passion for cars and motorcycles. He loves all forms of auto racing, including NASCAR, NHRA, and Formula 1, and currently owns 23 vehicles, which are mainly American muscle cars that he has worked on himself.
Goldberg lives with his wife, Wanda, and three-year old son, Gage A.J. Goldberg.
