Well, loyal minions, I've done you proud and managed to "Riedel" my way around to give you an... EXCLUSIVE! An insider - who you say? Sorry but that is NTK... come on people that means Need To Know and only I need to know. So back to the point, MY insider tells me a team is forming around doing "Marilyn the Musical." We all saw the leaked video of Ivy Lynn singing a possible early number for Marilyn but if for some reason you were under a rock (of Ages!) I have reposted it below:
Okay, this clip has been bouncing around the blogosphere for awhile BUT I can report that the team behind Marilyn is Eileen Rand (in her first solo producing performance), Derek Wills and the bookwriting/songwriting team of Houston and Levitt! This is all interesting on more levels than purgatory because Derek Wills was attached to direct "My Fair Lady" with Eileen and Jerry Rand producing. Looks like Eileen has cleaned out the cupboard and left Jerry with nothing more than scraps. AND Wills and Levitt have a stormy history that is sure to cloud their collaboration. Or maybe they have buried the hatchet... in each others backs!
The creative team held auditions just this past week and apparently Ivy Lynn (How could she NOT get the part after that demo?) and some newbie, Karen Cartwheel, are neck and neck. But it looks like they'll be making a decision this coming week or have they already made a decision? Remember what I teased above... EXCLUSIVE! They HAVE made their decision BUT like any self-respecting gossip, you'll have to wait until next week's column to get my take. BUT I will leave you with this morsel: Wills is known as a director who gets what he wants...
