Andy Mientus | Kyle Bishop

Andy Mientus stars in NBC's musical drama "Smash" as Kyle Bishop, a music composer who is creating a contemporary rock musical along with his writing partner, Jimmy Collins (Jeremy Jordan) in Brooklyn.

Andy Mientus toured the country in the hit Broadway musical "Spring Awakening" and most recently made his Off Broadway debut in MCC Theater's production of "Carrie." Other credits include Mark Cohen in "Rent," "February House" at New York Stage and Film and several productions with the New York Musical Theater Festival. He is currently developing the musical project "Manhattan Kids" with the band Teen Commandments.

Born and raised in Bay Ridge, Kyle attended Fort Hamilton High School, where he illegally downloaded his first cast album, "Hedwig and the Angry Inch," at age 14 in the library. Since then, he's been obsessed, in order, with the following: Cole Porter, "Moulin Rouge," Scissor Sisters, Alex Timbers, "The Great Gatsby," Houston and Levitt, the Muppets, Our Lady J, the G train, Stephen Sondheim, and Lena Dunham. He got his associate degree from LaGuardia Community College. Kyle's biggest wish: a "30 seconds back" button on conversations, like the one on a DVR. Proud Greenpoint resident.
